Print quality is fine and setup is fairly straightforward. The only negative so far is the poor quality of the images from the scans. The print comes across faded and blurry everytime.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello there,
This is so upsetting to hear that you are not entirely satisfied with this printer, especially regarding its scanning quality. I can assure you that we certainly build our printers with the intent of providing a reliable experience for our customers. With that said let me provide you with some help and improve your experience with this device even further.
First of all, I would suggest that you update your printers' firmware. It may resolve the issue: - Software and drivers: support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-color-laserjet-pro-mfp-m478-m479-series/19202514/model/19202521
Second of all, this document may prove useful in solving the problems: - Scan Issues: support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06332941

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I searched a long time for a printer with the features of the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M479fdw. All printers print; The hard to find "game changing" feature I was looking for was automatic 8 12" by 14" double-sided ADF scanning and 8 12" by 14" flat bed scanning. The former capability this printer has; the latter, it does not. It has an 8 12" by 11" flat bed scanning capability. Trying to find this out in the literature was impossible. This was the only shortfall, so I let it slide since I could get by 98% of the time with the ADF capability. . The other required printing capabilities were: laser, color, duplexing, and wireless .The faxing capability was not a requirement for me.
Bought this for one of our directors who now has to work from home. It prints a decent quality at 600x600, it will copy, scan, print, etc with ease. My only regret is not checking the specs closely to see if it supports wireless, which it did not. But in the end the cost of wireless on a printer is not worth it, plus its completely unsecure and most CISO types will say never ever install wireless on a printer.
I bought this MFP 2 weeks ago. Poor quality control, unreliable FAX, flimsy paper drawer, and total fail power management functions. Features not working speaks volumes to poor quality control. FAX is very problematic working on one occasion and not the next. Power Management DOES NOT WORK EVER! No matter what sleep mode I select (1 min, 5 min, et al) MFP NEVER enters sleep mode; display and noise remain constant. Same with power shut down mode: no matter what elapsed time interval is selected of printer not in use, it never powers down. Huge disappointment; don’t recommend!
For starters, there are no drivers downloads from HP's site for this printer and Windows 10. I tried printing in color on Avery labels and the results were marginal; the toner bleeds to other parts of the label sheet. In other words, it doesn't print cleanly. The feeder doesn't work when you're trying to scan multiple sheets of paper, which I found out from reading online that this is a known issue that HP has yet to offer a solution. Overall, this printer is on the disappointing side.
I bought this online 1 week ago. I used to be a laser printer repair technician for over 25 years and I know first hand the quality and reliability and customer support given by HP laser Jet printers to their consumers. This new wireless color MFP exceeds my expectations and needs.
I bought this to replace an older HP All-in-One laser printer that was 7-8 years old. This new printer is faster and quieter than the CM1415mfp and prints two sided.
