Love HP printers but not impressed with this one. Bought it to replace an old 4005dn. Printed a few workbooks and I'm getting sporadic, blotchy pages and some ghosting. Starter cartridges went WAY to fast. Good thing I ordered back ups. I will likely look for a replacement for this one now as well :/
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] If you want the wifi version, you need to order this model with a "w" on the end of the model number, not the "n." I re-ordered the MFP M479fdw (which is identical to this unit in size and functionality) and was very pleased with the machine. Smaller profile than the Canon unit I had previously. Relatively quiet. Prints quickly. Defaults to double sided printing which I like. Every user was able to install it on their computers. Please note that my Mac is 64 bit and upon installing the printer to my printer list, I had an error code that said "cnbmzd is not optimized for your Mac and needs to be updated." This may mean the HP software is still 32 bit so check that out. Another user with a pc had to update her operating system to the current version in order to install this printer.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We are doing less printing and more scanning. It is not the easiest machine to scan, we like to use the Subject and the File name the same and this machine will not let us copy and paste the subject line to the file name.
This was a very highly rated all-in-one, but I have had nothing but issues with it from day 1.
First issue - I thought this was meant to support printing photos, but apparently you need "laser jet" photo paper, which you can seemingly get in Letter size but not 4x6? I saw some people had success with inkjet 4x6 paper, but this did not work with this printer.
But the big one is so many of the functions don't work. Set up scan to email, worked for the first day, then just stopped. No idea why. It seems to have a lot of issues with outbound network connectivity, while inbound is fine (can still initiate printing and scanning from all my computers).
Which leads to the most frustrating issue - Scan to Computer just randomly working or not working. Half the time it just doesn't work. Tried to set up scan to Network Drive instead, but could not get it to connect to any of my specially set up network folders for it. Worked fine from other computers. Googled for a long time, lots of other people having the same issue. Completely stumped.
The error messages are completely useless too, and googling for info rarely brings any help. The printer announced that Scan to Computer had been disabled and could not be re-enabled. Why? No idea. I eventually did find a forum post saying remove PART of the HP software and it will work, and after much mucking around, this did seem to fix it. Why? Who knows! Although then I just tried to scan something and it's no longer working again.
The actual printing side seems good. But jeeze, what a mess. My old Canon all-in-one worked for many years without a hitch while this has been a nightmare from the beginning.

I paid a lot of money for this printer. It is now 5 months old and it is failing. The display panel is having issues. The roller has to be cleaned about every 5th sheet. It eats ink at an alarming pace. I will not be purchasing this brand again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have not found a computer that is compatible with this printer. After several days I was able to get the printer installed and working. The scanner still is unusable. There does not appear to be any way to make the scanner work correctly. None of the HP software provided or on the HP website works correctly.

Please make sure that the “Scan from a Computer or Mobile Device” option is enabled. The same way you can enable EWS Webscan, as it is not active by default due to Security reasons. Hope this helps!
Bought this a few weeks ago, and I can't get it to do simple tasks (print 2 pages per page...without losing half of the document). I've tried getting help from HP, but the effort has been fruitless. Frustrated enough to just throw it in the trash and buy a different printer
