This is a good machine to start with if you want to dip into making ice cream, sorbet and other frozen deserts. It has 2 paddles, one for ice cream and one for sorbets with fresh fruit. As long as you get the inner drum frozen as instructed, it works quite well. What you will end up with when done is soft serve ice cream and sorbet. When you put it into the freezer it will get harder. It makes a good amount and everything I have made so far has been yummy right out of the drum. You must be careful not to overload it or it will overflow. Of course then you will have to scoop out the excess and eat it, so maybe not so bad it you can't wait for it to be completely done. The blades work well, my only complaint is that a lot of the desert sticks to those blades so you have to work quickly to get it off, into the container and into the freezer before it melts. The double blade even more so-however that is offset by the fact that you can throw in fresh fruit cut into pieces (instead of being pureed as most recipe instructions call for) and have a well blended, fruity deserts with some small chunks in for extra flavor. Like all frozen drum icre cream makers, the ice cream is much harder to get off the drum because it is much more solidified than that in the middle, so more scraping is required, which means put the majority into a container and in the freezer and then scrape out the rest immediately to eat (or add to your other ice cream)-also not such a bad thing. It comes with recipes for ice cream, sorbet and even frozen/slushy drinks. You should know that most recipes call for some prep work before actually using the machine. (making some kind of puree and letting it cool for several hours). That is one reason why I love this machine. I can take fresh fruit, cut it up, chill it and then throw it in and let it mix without having to puree, cook and then chill for hours before using. Overall I am very happy with it and have gone on to the internet to find more recipes. I would recommend this as long as you have room in your freezer to keep the drum when not in use (so it's ready at a moments notice) and some counter space for the machine. If you put it away you are not as likely to use it as with it out, calling to you to make some yummy, fresh ice cream or sorbet. I believe it was a good value for the money and I have enjoyed using it and will be making more on my next day off from work.

If you want to try making your own ice cream or frozen dessert this is the easiest way to start. We have tried making it with fruit, strawberries and putting them in at first to be macerated, causes some to freeze to side of the container. The strawberry ice cream turned out pretty good. When you freeze any of the desserts to harden, they become icy. It is better to eat them a little soft when they are first made. There are ways to prevent that ice but it means experimenting with alcohol flavorings, or egg yolks or heavy cream. It seems that fats or alcohol help prevent icing up in the ice cream. It is easy to make and fun but it is not going to come out like the ice cream from the store at least not without some experimentation and practice. Always keep the container clean and frozen in the freezer you never know when you will want it and then it is always ready. It makes about a quart or a little less of finished product.

Good machine, just that tub freezes mixture will stick to sides as hard as rock as further toward paddle will remain soft. ( Hard to remove hard mixture )
