Horrible horrible software

After owning one of these for a couple of years and after giving one to my relatives and trying to handhold them through all of the software bugs, quirks, oddities, etc, I can no longer recommend Meural. It's shocking that a large company like Netgear can't hire 2 good developers to make this awesome. Issues... bugs in the scheduler requiring support to delete all schedules, albums versus playlists is confusing (why do both exist?), no google drive/photos integration (you get to download from photos and then upload to Meural), awkward space management, you can do x on the mobile app but can only do y on the website, that sd card slot can't be used by the app/website, can't see changes without refreshing the webpage, etc. I've listened to my wife spend 2 hours this morning talking her mother through the bugs and she has been using her Meural for over a year and still struggles with it. It is utterly baffling to me why Netgear would buy Meural and not provide development resources to make it awesome. I have no big complaints with the hardware, but the user software is an utter disaster of bugs, poor design, and wonky user workarounds. (You can't even submit a review here with an adblocker installed....)

Love it BUT...

I use my Meural Canvases to display family and travel photos. It's a great product but you're limited to 4gb of cloud storage even if you have multiple canvases. I have two 27" Meural Canvas II's (I liked it that much and dedicated one for landscape and the other for portrait photos) but I'm still limited to 4gb of storage. And there is no option to download my pictures so that I can resize them to a smaller file size. The Meural app could also be better.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Good concept, room for improvement

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the idea of having one frame where I can display different art depending on my mood, and am able to do that with this product. I have not subscribed for any additional content yet, and am pretty pleased with the variety provided by the samplers. The art displayed looks great and the frame (I have the dark wood) is attractive. However, I have had very bad luck with the gesture controls. After several weeks of practice I am still only able to get it to respond about 50% of the time. Thankfully, it is easy to control with the app when I get too frustrated with the gesture controls. Other things that I don't love: 1) it needs to be plugged in and that the cord is visible which detracts from the illusion that I am actually looking at a piece of artwork and 2) most art does not conform to the fixed dimensions of the frame and will be cropped to some extent.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

For optimal gesture control, we recommend steadily waving four inches across the sensor area, at about an inch away from the frame. This will ensure the frame’s sensor registers waves with greater accuracy and precision. Additionally, gesture recognition is locked for 0.5 seconds after each gesture to prevent error waves, so fast waving will not work.

Need to be able to turn GESTURES OFF! Sometimes when I walk by mine in the hall it will switch pictures. Very frustrating you can't turn gestures off!!!

Very poor plug design

Initial Product review upon receipt of product- I can see already that there wasn't much thought given to how the product would be used if one wanted to power the Canvas from a plug installed behind the unit- the plug is oriented sideways from all standard electrical receptacles! I have high hopes for it once installed, but his really makes it very difficult to install in a professional manner.

Failed within 4 days

Operated fine on initial boot up but after 4 days of possession and a total of about 45 minutes of run time, it shut its self off and will not power on past the inital start up screen.

A great gadget for the home

I was somewhat sceptical like other reviewers having experienced cheap and nasty digital photo frames in the past. As soon as I had the Meural Canvas plugged in and displaying the sample renaissance artwork it blew me away with how it brought these paintings to life. I wasn't going to take up the artwork subscription but glad I have done so as it's been enjoyable to see them and not to be limited to hard copy prints. It's a great concept for enjoying art. Like all gadgets there's a familiarisation period to get used to it's particularly nuances and features. It's taken my photo album playlists and memories to a new level, on display to enjoy seeing at all times. I'm even experimenting with NFTs thanks to its integration here. My only niggles are being unable to source another here in NZ at the moment; limited uptake by unknown or local artists who don't know it exists as a media channel, and having trouble deciding where to wall mount it. I've temporarily solved the latter by using my painter's easel as you can see in the photo - this may become a permanent solution as I'm growing to like it.

Struggling

I’ve tried everything I know in order to get an image to remain frozen until I manually change it rather than moving through an album or playlist. The app is so frustrating!!
