Nice but...

User-friendly. Beautiful picture quality. My only qualm is that it is not capable of integrating directly with a crypto wallet to stream NFTs. I managed to display my NFT collection, but it was not an easy process and the formatting is wonky. Netgear: PLEASE update this product to be compatible with crypto wallets.

An art gallery in the home, beautiful,

I have been fascinated by this and finally got it as a self Christmas present and think it’s great. The images are amazing, you can see the brush strokes, it really is like an art gallery in the home. I only wish that the art works were shown in their entirety. They tend to be cropped to focus on the main part of the picture or central group. I would have no problem if the entire work were available. I hope that the great gallery is upgraded to correct this. I still love it though.

I like the canvas, although there are a few things that can be better for the amount of money paid (1) there is a seam that is not sealed well on the frame (2) sending photos requires uploading to the app which seems unnecessary (3) i wish the horizontal/vertical pictures would adjust better without having to change the actual orientation.

Good, but.

I've had mine for…well it's well out of warranty. I would have given it 4 or 5 stars except it has developed a problem. On pictures with solid medium to dark tones up at the top, the display has developed a pixel problem, an irregular area of darker pixels much like, if it was an actual hard copy work of art, moisture had seeped down from the top border. Other than that, I appreciate that it is one of the larger frames on the market and the quality is good. I'm debating ordering a replacement.

Canvas II has 4 GBs of local storage, not 8 GBs.

We purchased a Meural Canvas II in November 2020 and started downloading and adding playlists and quickly ran out of local storage space. The message in the Meural app says "Free Space: 0.0 GB of 4.0 GB". On the Netgear website for the Meural Canvas II product, under technical specifications, there is a line item indicating "8GB of storage".
Assuming that this meant that a Meural Canvas II should have 8 GBs of local storage space where I can save downloaded playlists, I called Netgear Support for advice.
I was told that the 8 GBs of storage space refers to 4 GBs of local storage space plus an additional 4 GBs of cloud storage space.
This is, of course, nonsense.
Anyway, 4 GBs of space can store a lot of art.
But however much art that equates too, it is exactly half as much art as the 8 GBs of storage space that I thought I had paid for.
The cake is a lie.

I bought this to be a center piece in my gallery, but now looking for the box to return it. An image on the screen looks very good, but the nice stops there. Simple setup instructions are missing, gesture control works sometimes, and no PC or network connection to manage images. The Android application is very limited, only images on my phone can be uploaded.
Suggestions:
1) Create a printed complete user manual
2) Make the IOS and Android application equal
3) Create a PC application for managing images
4) Make the power adapter low profile for behind the frame mounting

Great picture, but limited

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] As a platform for viewing digital art curated and delivered by Netgear, this is quite impressive. If you're looking for something to easily display your own pictures, you'll need to put some work into it.
The screen is very nice. Great color and contrast, and a very clear picture. On some of the artwork served up, you can almost feel the brushstrokes or the texture of the canvas in the images. The brightness can be set to adjust to the ambient brightness of the room, so it's not overly bright. Note, though, that the screen is HD resolution 1920x1080, not 4K/UHD, so if you're up close you'll see pixels.
I was disappointed with the limited ability to show my own pictures. It can be done through the Meural app or web service, and you are given an initial 4GB of space to upload pictures into. Here's where it becomes a pain. The software has no integration with Google Photos, Facebook, or any other online services where you might typically keep your photos. Instead, you have to download the pictures, then re-upload them to an album in your Meural account, edited to fit a landscape or portrait orientation, then send the album to your Meural Canvas. It's a finicky process, and sometimes the changes I make to the album don't get reflected to the canvas itself - I end up repeatedly hitting "send" until it does.
The device has a gesture control, detecting hand movements left, right, up and down. I probably need to practice these a little more because I often just end up using the remote control in the app.
The frame is quite thick and stands a fair way off the wall. I would have liked it to be thinner, but it doesn't look out of place with other large picture frames. The plastic matte board surround seems a bit out of place on an otherwise high quality product, but isn't noticeable unless you go poking at it. Installation is easy - the mounting bracket has a built in spirit level to make life easier, and the canvas can be easily swapped between portrait and landscape modes. Adding the app to my phone and pointing it at the QR code on the canvas to register the device was easy.
Overall, it's nice, but it's limited by the software, and as a software engineer, that frustrates me. I'd love to be able to point it at a shared social media photo album and have the canvas display photos from that, but you can't. They have an extensive library of image collections you can display - some are free, many are subscription only, and several appear to be optional additional purchases. They seem to have put in most of the effort here, making a digital art delivery platform, rather than a digital photo frame, but there's no reason why it can't be both.

Patience is required during initial set up.

I treated myself and my wife to this digital canvas as a Christmas present in order that we might enjoy photos of our granddaughter in a larger format as well as to upload photos we have taken over the years of travel and also to enjoy and learn more about art in general. I must say the canvas lives up to its claims listed in the description and marketing information.
However, upon opening the box, I was wondering why there was no "quick start guide" or "easy set up" material provided. I wanted to see how the canvas worked and looked prior to hanging it on a wall, given that we were not quite sure, where we wanted to hang it somewhat permanently.
I plugged the canvas in saw the Netgear/Meural screen flash by and then......nothing. I had downloaded the app prior to plugging the canvas in and searched the app for information as to how to make this thing work. The app did have instructions starting with scan the QR code.
What QR code I said. There is no QR code on the box, on the unit, nor in any of the few pages of papers supplied in either the main box or the shipping box.
No matter, the app indicated you could begin set up using the serial number. Ok, there were/are 3 sets of numbers on the box. Which is the serial number? Three attempts and voila, I got the canvas to show up on the app. Ok, why is the screen blank?
and here is my frustration with the poorly written instructions and or lack of "Begin here" summary card. Nowhere is it easily found or mentioned that there is a power button. Nor is it mentioned that you have to power on the canvas in order to see the QR code. An hour of very frustrating searching and I was ready to send the thing back, thinking what in the world did I waste my money on?
The frustration could have been easily eliminated by a simple card. Start here. Plug unit in. Power unit on. Power button is located on the side next to the ports for memory sticks. QR code will pop up on screen after unit is powered on.
Easy as pie perhaps for the techies that came up with this gadget but not so much for someone used to reading and following logical instructions or by using common sense.
Finally after hour two, I scanned the QR code and was able to proceed.
Next level of frustration. The "swipe" gesture. Aaaarrggh. I've waved at this thing like Opus the penguin trying to fly. I checked the support pages for help. Gesture slowly. Ok. gesturing slowly, the canvas still has a mind of it's own. The video on the support page for gesture hints makes it look seamless. In reality not so. I kept wanting to gesture at the canvas with my middle finger, only to stop, realizing Santa might be watching me.
You are supposed to swipe left or right to advance to the next photo or go back one. That does not happen. The menu will pop up, but not down. Swiping to the right results in thumbnails of the photos you loaded (or art pieces), but getting the darn thing to actually advance.? Not as easy at the marketers make it out to be.
Finally, the app itself. We/I finally figured out how to create a "playlist" and load photos into it. One. At. A. Time. Soooooo tedious. We tried uploading multiple photos from our phones only to start gesturing madly, well, you get the idea. And even though you create an album, you still need to create and add to a playlist and then whew, send it to the canvas. I think it should be look a picture, and click. Sent to canvas. Not look at a picture. Add to album. Add to playlist. and then send to canvas. Too many steps, sheesh.
Nonetheless. We are happy with the canvas. I did get the swivel mount and have now attached it to the wall we think we are going to use as a permanent mount.
Bear in mind, you need an outlet close by. And you need patience. Lots and lots of patience.
I would recommend this to a friend!
