Super hood

After looking in all the box stores for a wall mounted hood I decided to try online.
I was lucky enough to find the range hood store.
Not only was their selection great and the prices were well below what I seen locally. Selected hood arrived quickly and in excellent condition.
Installation was fairly easy for my son and I using the enclosed instructions.
We are very happy with the way it looks and its performance.

Good looking hood, not as quiet as advertised.

We installed this in a new house and really like how it looks. At the price it is a good value and seems well made. We like that it holds a magnet for hanging pot holders on the side.
But the claims of the fan noise being equivalent to a whisper are not true. On the lowest setting it might be 50 decibels, not 30. The sound level was important to us and thus the 3 rating. Other than that, it is a great hood.

We apologize that this hood ended up being louder than expected. Sometimes a loud hood is the result of the motor being off balance.
Typically, you just have to tighten the bolts on the sides of the motor. This can help decrease extra noise.

I bought this (KF2-36) range hood several months before my house was completed enough to install, but I didn't want to chance it selling out. It was delivered quickly and in perfect condition There is a plastic lining adhered to the stainless steel finish to protect it from scratches and it is packed in styrofoam to prevent dents. All the hardware needed to install is included, and everything goes together well. I chose this model because of the four CFM settings. It has enough power to vent anything I can cook up. The lights are bright and pool over the stove top. I do wish there were two light settings instead of one, but this is minor. The range hood operates well and is surprisingly quiet. The best part is that it looks beautiful while it functions flawlessly.

I've had this installed for about 2 months now, and the one upshot is that the design fit exactly what I was looking for at a price that didn't break the bank.
However, the balance on the motor is pretty bad. With 4 speed settings, i can only use levels 1 and 2. Going any higher has really bad vibration that rattles dishes in the cabinets and on the counter as well as within the grease baffles on the unit itself. Really annoying rattle.
Adding to those balance issues, the unit only attaches to the wall at 2 points, and loosely hangs without a way to tighten it down. So the motor balance contributes further to vibration by rattling the whole unit against the wall at higher fan speeds.
The controls aren't difficult to learn, but there is absolutely zero operating instructions included. To turn on is not just hitting the speed, first hit the 'power' button, then your speed. And at shutdown, initially you will think you are turning the fan off, but really you are starting a countdown timer for shut-off the first time you click the power button. Clicking the power a second time will immediately shut the unit down.
If it wasn't for the major vibration issues, this unit would be amazing.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
