Buy this fan! Great customer service, too!!

I'm going to share this story. I have a vintage-style Vornado Silver Swan oscillating fan that is about 10 years old. I break it out every Summer to help circulate the a/c at the condo and because it looks old-school cool. The plastic knob finally broke and I was disappointed my searches for a replacement were fruitless. As a last resort I emailed Vornado asking if I could buy a replacement from them. Not only are they shipping me a new one for free, they even agreed to send a second one as a future backup. I feel like this kind of customer service deserves a shout out. Buy their fans and space heaters!! I have four of various types. Vornado.com!

Capturing the form and function of the past...

I use this fan in my living room. I've owned a dozen Vornado fans and this is the second Vintage. My first one had issues with the tilt function. This one, smaller than the original, has the same great vintage looks and oscillation but in a more compact design. The only drawback is the slight "howling" sound made by the fan. I think it's caused by the air being drawn in through the back grill since none of the other Vornado fans make this sound. You could say it creates a "white noise" perfect for sleeping but, I have this in my living room and it's very noticeable during quiet scenes in movies.
Cons: Loud
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

A Fan of the Fan

I grew up with an oscillating fan in the house and remember that soft oscillating sound and cool breeze on summer afternoons. I got the Vornado Silver Swan in 2004, a primary reason being it is metal not plastic. It gets run ~365 days a year at night. At times it is a little noisy with a metal-on-metal sound. Lately it is having trouble starting up. I am investigating the cause. I've enjoyed this fan for the last 13 years.
Pros: Durable, Easy To Clean, Great speed settings, Metal in an age of plastic!
Cons: Can be a little noisy

Most Frustrating Fan I've Bought

For 15+ I had a Vornado Model 280ss and never had an issue with it. I decided to upgrade to the Silver Swan Alchemy thinking I would get the same build quality I have come to expect from Vornado. This has been one of the most frustrating fans I've ever purchased - on low speeds the fan rattles and I can't get it to silently operate aside from the fan moving the air. Don't get me wrong, I love the vintage look of this fan, but if you're looking for something practical and effective, get another model.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Wow!

I just received the fan today and I've been running it all afternoon in my study. It's a nostalgic design and solid construction. The sound though is what really stands out. I can't tell you what exactly it is but plastic fans don't sound like this. I haven't heard this tone in a fan blade since I was young. Wonderful to go to sleep to. If you're on the fence on trying this, let this be the push let this be the final push you need.

Great but don't get fingers near rotation

This is a great, powerful little fan. It looks good too. Seems very high quality. I made the mistake of reaching around it at the base to move the fan while it was in rotation mode and my finger got stuck, and crushed. I couldn't get it out. It was my fault but didn't realize there was no room. I was just trying to push it a few inches on the floor. Use the top handle if you need to move it! Luckily I got my finger out, but it was crushed for a few seconds and almost had to call for help. Keep children away for sure. Be aware of safety. Turn it off first if you need to move it.

Good solid fan

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I hadn't seen this particular model of fan previously, but am very familiar with the Vornado brand. This Silver Swan S Vintage Oscillating Fan has three-speeds and is very quiet when in use. The lowest speed generally provides enough airflow for me, so that is the speed I use most, but even higher speeds are pretty quiet. The vintage design is aesthetically pleasing, although I might have preferred a matte color rather than the shiny chrome (so that it would look even more vintage). The fan includes a lifting handle, which is a little small but useful. The fan feels very well-made and is very sturdy to sit on a table or on the floor. I think it will hold up very nicely. Overall, I would recommend this fan.

The best in quality and style

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was only vaguely familiar with the name Vornado when I got this air circulator. I immediately noted it's elegant design. The art deco look is attractive in any room. I got chrome but the vintage colors look equally attractive. I was amazed how solid the Silver Swan S fan is. It has sturdy metal construction including metal fan blades. This product looks like something from an era when things were built to last. So how does it function? Like a dream. The lowest setting is whisper quiet while still moving a lot of air. The middle setting will give you a nice breeze. The top setting is amazingly powerful for such a compact fan. Would I recommend this to a friend? Absolutely. This is best fan I've ever had and I expect it to last for years to come.
