Comfy three season sleeping pad
on August 11, 2020

I bought this to use when camping and for overnight sailing. I like that it's light and packs down to a small size. I am a side sleeper and prefer lots of cushion and this pad delivers. If you're a backpacker you will probably want something lighter weight, but for my car/boat camping self this was perfect. Great price as well. When I buy again I'll likely go for the insulated version but this will be fine for quite a while.

Great Sleep, Compact, Easy to Carry
on August 10, 2020

I have used this pad a few times on camping trips and have found it to be incredibly comfortable on a variety of surfaces from soft sand to hard packed dirt. It was so comfortable that I don't think I will ever want a traditional air mattress again. As a side sleeper I was skeptical that this pad would support me (6'0" & 200 lbs.) but I have yet to feel the ground once! The compact size and ease of inflation (9-10 breathes for me) make setting up a breeze. I recommend this sleep pad to anyone who is dreading a camping trip due to sleeping on an air mattress.

Adjustable firmness

My previous pad was a self inflating Therma-Rest that was bulky.I am really loving the compact size of the Recon. The flip valve makes inflating/deflating super fast. I found that for my lung capacity it did take a few more breaths to fully inflate. 5 pads were used on our car camping trip and all held air through 2 nights of use. I also determined that full inflation is not that comfortable and that some air did need to be let out to provide a better sleeping experience. My first use was on a solo motorcycle excursion where I used just the Recon pad. Second trip I used in conjunction with my camp cot. I weigh 165 and my wife weighs 125. She woke stiff each morning on our last 2 day car camping trip.

The mat is as good

The mat is as good as advertised. I weigh 200 lbs, and usually sleep on my side in the field. It retains enough air for me to sleep comfortably all night. I wish I had ordered years ago!

Better than the standard issued

Better than the standard issued USMC sleeping mat, and it is smaller to pack out. It inflates super fast, so it makes it easy to layout and put it away. One of the best purchases I've made to improve field life.

Excellent quality for the price

I have been using my Static V pad for about 4 years now and I live it. I have used it tent camping, on bare ground, wood cabin floors, and in a hammock. It performs well in each of these situations, although it does slide around in the hammock.
The pad is easy to inflate without the aid of a pump, and deflates and packs down very compact.
I am not too hard on my gear, but the Static V pad has put up with all the rough surfaces I’ve slept on. I have never had reason to use the patch kit, and 4 years after purchase it is still in great shape.

Side Sleeping Comfort!
on August 7, 2020

Took this on a 4 day trip into the Wind River Range in Wyoming. I’m predominantly a side sleeper, and with many pads my hip ends up resting on the ground. Not this one! I didn’t sleep well, but it wasn’t because of a sore hip! The flat inflate/deflate valve was a little different, I’m used to one that projects from the pad itself, but no biggie. Deflating took a couple rolling trials to get most of the air out which took a little extra time. The Big Agnes Air Core deflate time is much quicker, but it doesn’t have the deep weld design the Static V has, so trade offs I guess! Overall, I’m happy with the function and comfort of the pad!

I took this pad on my backpacking trip. It packs small and light, is easy to inflate and is amazingly comfortable. With other styles of sleeping pads, I end up sliding off the pad during the night. With this one, it keeps me centered and on the pad. I'm a side sleeper and at no time did I touch the ground. 5 stars.
