Most Comfortable Headlamp
on March 13, 2019
Posted by: Dave
This is a very well made headlamp. It is extremely comfortable to wear. For those with large fingers, especially with gloves on, the switch can be hard to operate. I found the light to be quite bright but on high with both lights on full, the battery life was less than 3 hours. It seems with only one of the lamps on, the battery life is much better. I love the ability to dim the bulbs! This gives much versatility to using the headlamp.
On a side note, in order to be military approved the lamp HAS to start in Red mode first. hint, hint.
Speaking about the red light, it is almost too bright. It would be neat if it too could dim?

Batterie issues

I bought this way back when it came out on kickerstarter. I loved it, great fit and great light. Lately though the battery is causing me issues. it claims it's fully charged, but the light dies only minutes into my run. When recharging it claims again that it's almost full. Unfortunately that renders it unusable

Battery rhymes with lottery!

I bought this one as it came out a few years ago and it only lasted for a year or so. Nowadays I use it for small tasks around the house but it is no longer reliable for more than 30 minutes. I would not recommend this product as the batteries seem to be a problem, as it is the case with other purchases I made from BioLite. If you want to play the lottery and buy, go ahead! You might end up with a great unit (as I did with the original campstove)! Otherwise invest in a USB charger and a lamp on which you can change the batteries.
The physical fit is great, but I feel like I lost money on this one, as I did before with the PowerLight.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good headlamp, some issues
on August 12, 2019

This headlamp does a great for me when supervising my dogs with their bathroom requirements at night. I use the white flood and spot. The battery in the headlamp is readily rechargeable using an enclosed 8 inch micro usb cable. Unfortunately, the micro usb connection is being phased out for the usb-c connector but for awhile it will suffice. This relatively minor issue together with 2 what I view are design failures, makes me give this a 3 stat rating. First, the instructions are horrible—you know the kind, written in several different languages to keep costs down. So bad are the instructions I had to contact bio-lite support, via email, and they called me back and I got the unit to work as I wanted. The major fault with this lamp is the overly small on-off button. If you are using gloves, forget it! It really needs a finger nail, not just a finger, but a fingernail. And the on-off button is also used to switch between modes so one needs to be careful when pressing the button to turn it on or off, that you don’t press it too long jumping to another mode (e.g., red light only) .
I guess I should end this review now because Biolite does not accept lengthy reviews. My first review was rejected for being too long—-but was advised to feel free to post it on Amazon.—they accept longer and presumably better product reviews. I did, so visit Amazon for my review of this product. It is dated July 15, 2019.

Great Resource for Late Night Walks

I'm currently a user of other Biolite products, the Biolite Mini & Solar Panel 5+. I bike, camp, hike a ton all year & was looking for suitable light to use on my evening/late night walks. This light seemed to answer all of my needs. I like the fact that I can focus the light either down or ahead of where I'm going. The dimming & comfort of the light is a strong plus. The one area that is currently somewhat difficult for me is finding the on/off button. I am a senior 70+ so age likely is a factor. I feel a texture patch on the top of the on/'off button would assist people such as I in finding the button with more ease.

Equipment issue / not recommended for trail

I bought this as a replacement for a Petzl that died on me, excited about the output for the modest price. Unfortunately I’m having an issue with it where the output will decrease to about 2/3 of the full brightness over a period of 8 minutes. To correct, I need to cycle through the functions, which is frustrating while on the run. I've verified it's not an issue of battery charge or environmental issues (e.g. fog or temperature). In the middle of the woods in the dark, 200 vs 300 lumens can make a big difference, as my recently rolled ankle can attest to.
Additionally, I think there are a couple of notable design flaws. First, with only one button, the default should not be to turn off the light. This means that to change the function I need to stop moving. A better design would be pressing changes the function, a three second hold turns the lamp on or off, and an eight second hold locks and unlocks it.
Secondly, the button itself is quite small. I've only used it in warm weather, but would expect that come winter when my dexterity decreases and I'm wearing gloves, it should be almost impossible to use. A larger, less protected button would be better. Now there's almost too much protection from ourselves.
So overall, it will be fine for walks around the neighborhood, but doesn't cut it in my opinion for trail running.

Started great, ended poorly

I decided to give this headlamp a shot after owning a few from the "other brands". I was drawn in by the form factor, features, and great reviews, but unfortunately my experience hasn't been as good. The item is described to be waterproof in rain and the first time I wore it here in the fall in the PNW (note: we don't get downpours, just misty rain) it failed on me. I got one red light flash then it died completely. Proceed with caution on this product unless you live in Arizona or something, as it's not reliable in anything but dry conditions.
Note: I was offered 30% off of a new unit despite mine still being under warranty. Sadly, I had turned at least two friends on to this headlamp initially but now I have to go back and explain to them how to baby the product made for outdoor use so they don't have the same experience.

Hey there! This sounds like a really frustrating experience and we're sorry the HL330 isn't functioning properly for you anymore. We'd like to clear something up: the HeadLamp 330 is rated at IPX4, which means that it is resistant to water sprays, drops or splashes from any direction. An IPX4 rating does not mean that a product is waterproof, or that it can withstand prolonged exposure to water (like that of a rainstorm). We know this can be confusing and we definitely want our HeadLamps to work in the misty PNW, but these HeadLamps are not necessarily designed to be used in the rain (or advertised as such). Regardless, we'd like to get a working headlamp into your hands and we'd be happy to replace this for you - please just reach back out to our support team!

Not so happy! I bought 4 of the headlamps, 3 of them won’t hold a charge at all, they turn off within 3-5 mins! I have a red, baby blue and black one!

That doesn't sound right (and definitely doesn't sound like a great experience)! We're so sorry. Your HeadLamp 330s should all last for hours on a full charge. Please reach out to our support team (support@bioliteenergy.com) and we'll help troubleshoot and/or replace these for you ASAP.
