great little grill except

I really like this grill except: The heat: (1.) If you Open the hood the temp drops considerably. (2.) We had a previous model from Char-Broil that had another shelf below the burner with Bricketts on it. That really helped with heat loss. I was wondering if there was a something like that I could get for this model. (3.) You really shouldn't use an extension cord with this grill because a longer cord will affect the amperage which affects the maximum temp. (4.) You should plug this or any electric grill into a circuit that doesn't have much else plugged into it or you will trip circuit breakers. I have a dedicated circuit that only goes to the area of the grill.

Had an Electric Patio Bistro For Many Years...

Not only have I had one for many years (ceraamic briquettes and now infrared) , I gave one to my parents who also live in a condo that does not allow combustible grilling on their lanais. I recently used a gas BBQ to grill food and found the Charbroil electric grill to retains juices better than the gas grill did - plus the gas grill blackened the poultry!!
If you make this purchase, take heed of the recommendations of others (and myself) and get a nylon grill brush and the BBQ cover....makes your grill last longer. And also try to plug it into a 15 amp outdoor socket for the best grilling temperature.

We had a CB Bistro electric grill for about four years that I picked up at a big-box-store garden center end of year sale. It was intended as an occasional backup to our, ahem, four different charcoal and gas grills. The original idea was to avoid fires and smoke here in the PNW rainforest during our high forest fire risk times/burn bans.
It could be easily wheeled out of our garage, with easy monitoring and access between there and the kitchen. This meant we started using it often during the rainy times of year, under the garage overhang. That led to us using it in the winter months as well. So before long its versatility and ease of use meant it was used not only more than our other grills...soon we were using it more often than our kitchen range! It heats up much faster than our conventional oven and is easier to clean.
I loved using the Patio Bistro grill not only as a conventional grill but also with disposable aluminum roasting pans for non-slab-format foods, like stews, or for roasts where I wanted to retain the drippings for sauces, or even for reheating leftovers.
When our little black one gave up the ghost after four years of heavy use, we didn't hesitate to replace it.
We have seen many online reviews complaining that the users' Patio Bistro grill doesn't heat up enough. We had that problem at first and realized we were using an extension cord that was too small an electron pipeline. My husband replaced it with a herkier one and the grill worked exactly as advertised once enough of those little electrons could race down the cord to make infrared heat.
One other thing, we use "wiggle paper" on the grate. This is a corrugated aluminum grill-cover sheet that really cuts down on the amount of grill cleaning needed. We buy those at the big box stores and cut each sheet in half.
This grill is a wonderfully designed and thought out tool. We ordered our new one to have it in time to cook the Christmas roast and prawns.

Added ceramic briquettes to the bottom to simulate charcoal cooking. Fats and juices hit the hot briquettes and release smokey vapors back to the food. To hold the briquettes I placed a 10” round charcoal grate in the bottom. Fits and works great, like cooking over coals with the coals.

Do not buy this grill

I bought this grill because I used a Char-Broil patio caddy for many years and it was a great grill. The Patio Bistro is very poorly designed and I am extremely unhappy with it.First because of an opening in the back, the heat escapes so it does not heat up completely. The electronics can not be removed like the Patio Caddy so when it rains the electronics get wet. The worst part of it is the uncleanable grill. The space between the grates is so small that pieces of meat that break off do not fall thru, they just stay there and burn which makes it hard to clean. With the patio caddy I could use a wire brush to get the remainders but not on this grill. I would return it if I could.

I brought this because I was very familiar with it . My nephew has an older model. Small changes in my model. Easy breezy setup... spray grill grates plug in and cook! I just had to have one of my own! Purchase yesterday, assembled this morning, grilling tonight!

Thought we would love this...it is our fourth Char-broil grill...the infrared just isn't as good as original electric....does not ever get got enough for steaks, and once you open lid the temp plummets and doesn't recover...such a bummer, we were excited for new grill.

I've owned my Patio Bistro for EIGHT YEARS and it works as well today as it worked on the first day. This grill has NOT been treated gently over the years and it still shines up like it did on Day 1. Maintains a steady heat, no flare-ups, and it's easy to keep clean. Better than any charcoal or gas grill I owned previously. You will not be disappointed with this grill.
