[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Received this laptop brand new from Lenovo on June 11 and set it up. Really liked it at first--fast boot times with the stellar Lenovo keyboard. On June 15, left it to do some updates through the Lenovo Vantage app, and returned to find it completely dead and unresponsive. No screen light, no response to the power button or any keys, nothing at all. I'm not sure what happened--maybe a BIOS update failed?--but I'm back to relying on my old T410 from 2011 while this one is returned for a refund--here's hoping Lenovo customer service will stand behind their products, which historically have been of such a high quality I've never needed to contact service or tech support for all the years I've been using the T-series. Maybe I'll try a P-series instead, but I don't think I want this model when mine died completely after less than a week. I found at least one user online who had the same thing happen to them at the same time as me--I would advise all buyers to think twice about purchasing this model until Lenovo fixes whatever is going on with it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The laptop has great battery life but this is achieved through a significant drop in performance when not plugged in due to no overclocking. When the laptop is plugged in and running at peak performance it's quite powerful and able to handle heavy financial modeling. Screen is excellent quality and track pad is adequate.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My new T490 is the latest in a long series of Thinkpad T models that I've owned. I've enjoyed them all; what I like best about the T series is the little Trackpoint stick controller in the middle of the keyboard. This protects me from having to use the Trackpad. I've never been able to master the latter because of an age-related peristent tremor.
Another great advantage of the T490 is that both its storage memory and operating membory is all solid state. It seems faster and is surely more durable than conventional hard drives.
The Thunderbolt and USB-C connectors keep up with the trend, but the doumentation regarding their use is deficient. The advertising makes great claims for them -- they can do everything -- but I haven't got any idea how to use them.
