Better Than A Maid

I hurt my back last year and have trouble pushing a mop and a vacuum. I have the roomba vacuum for years and love it. I bought the Scooba a couple of months ago and it is a great tool. It cleans the floors very well. The only thing I have to say is I wish the battery lasted longer so I could clean more rooms in the house. I am considering buying an additional battery to charge.

I purchased the Scooba two years ago and didn't really think it would work. It has been the best investment I have made. My entire basement is oil stained concrete floors. Scooba has been a lifesaver for me! It leaves no streaks on my shiny floors and perfectly cleans them every time. I love it so much I have just ordered a second one!

Will not change size of room. Comes on automatically when it is picked up from charger. Shakes really bad while mopping. I am taking it back to the store for a refund.

Your marketing does yourself such a diss

When I would see your ads - you have clean homes shown - sometimes so modern they look like they never even could get dirty. My husband works with former industrial designers from iRobot and kept asking me if we should look into getting one. I replied that they would never work for us. We have kids, 3 dogs, a cat which come with lots of hair, dirt and drool. After two hours I have never been in love so much in my life. While I lay in bed in the morning sipping my Diet Pepsi my 9 year old son fetches Roomba and it vacuums all the dog hair and dust under the bed, dressers and everywhere else it lands. Then we bring in Scooba. The smell of the cleaning solution alone makes my day so much brighter. So in closing don't be afraid to tout that it can work for overworked moms who are soooooo sick of housework.
Pros: Pets, WORKHORSE

iRobot Scooba® 450 by iRobot Not Perfect
on June 25, 2014

I had high hopes for this iRobot Scooba® 450 after using their vacuum version with very satisfactory results for over a year now. We have high quality laminate flooring so I was a bit concerned about the possibility of this device causing the floors to delaminate or buckle. We live near an ocean with strong breezes that often drive the rain through open doors and these floors have been wet many times without adverse consequence so I thought I'd chance it. So far (after one use) they held up well. What disappoints me are a few engineering deficiencies with this model that doesn't live up to their advertising hype. First off, I was hoping that this machine would clean thoroughly but alas it leaves streaks. This is despite using a brand new machine and following their directions to the letter. I used their solution as well. Perhaps with additional washes this may improve but it was only able to perform one complete wash cycle on a fully charged battery before the battery low indicator came on. I also found that it does not avoid carpets and rugs but rather runs over them and gets stuck. I had already removed the smaller rugs but had to roll up the edges of the larger ones to keep this machine from trying to wash the rugs as well. I ended up using the Virtual Wall to keep it off the carpeted areas. Finally, the machine was not able to suck up all the water. It did manage to get most of it but left a few large puddles in various places that I had to soak up by hand. I think the AI may be easily confused by complex areas. We have an island in the middle of our kitchen and even though it did manage to get around it it's not clear whether it was able to make all the passes in all areas that it was suppose to. The bottom line is that this works, sort of. It does leave streaks and rides over rugs and carpets which are big negatives for me. It's also not clear that its AI can manage to perform all passes over spaces that are not completely unobstructed. I was hoping for more based on my previous experience with their vacuum robots but this isn't it.
Pros: Automatic, Uses Fresh Water
Cons: Does Not Avoid Carpets, Doesn't Suck Up All Water, Leaves Streaks, Short Battery Life

Does a great job!

I've had this robot for a few weeks and I'm really happy with it. I had a big family party on Sunday - and it rained. People and dogs running in and out of the kitchen tracking mud. It was late, I was tired, the dishes were done but the floor was a mess. I put scooby on the job and went to bed. I was greeted the next day with a nice clean floor! I love this robot! I bought this robot to mop the kitchen floor between house cleanings when for some reason the floor is a mess. I was attracted to the fact that it uses only clean water, it doesn't just smear around the dirt so you don't notice it so much. It far exceeds my expectations - it does a really good job on the kitchen tile! I also tried it on my screen porch - floor to ceiling screens on three sides, very rough tile. The screen porch gets very dirty very fast. Scooby did a pretty good job on the screen porch even though it was really filthy the day I decided the screen porch was in desperate need of a cleaning and I really would rather lie on the couch and read a mystery. The cleanup of the bristles and squeegee is fast and easy. It would be nice if the battery lasted longer, so it could do more on one charge. It's still a great device. A pricey device, but worth every penny when you go to bed with a dirty floor and wake up to a clean one.

Needs Improvement

I have a 150 sqft area of tile that covers the kitchen, entrance and bathroom. In my first attempt to use Scooba, I set it to large room (150-300 sqft). When it finished, the clean tank was almost empty, but the dirty tank was completely dry. It just contained a bit of dust. From experimenting I found limiting Scooba to about 90 sqft but still using large room works best. It collects about 5-10% of the water it uses. The top of my Scooba is heavily scratched from becoming wedged under the dishwasher and kitchen cabinets. It sometimes is able to open the cabinet doors. I've started rolling up old towels and putting them under the cabinets. I now have to hand clean these areas. Scooba likes to climb onto the carpet then rotate when it realizes it can't move forward. Rotating makes things worse - it would be better if it would back up. I set up barricades on the carpet as the virtual wall is too imprecise and would mean more floor to hand clean. The spiral mode seems to be the most effective cleaning mode Scooba has. Water left on the floor when spiraling outward is picked up when spiraling inward before the water can air dry. However it does this only once then reverts to random paths around the room. The spiral seems to have a diameter limit of about five feet and sometimes it aborts the spiral at about one foot without even hitting any obstacle. The brush is so thin that only a few bristles touch the floor at any given time (I had a look underneath while Scooba was sitting on glass). The bristles are too short to reach into tile grout. The brush can pick up some hair and dust bunnies but that's about it. iRobot needs to offer an optional heavy scrubber brush (20 times the number of bristles and longer). I divide my 150 sqft tile floor into two parts then run each part as a large room. I do two passes for each part. The first pass with soap solution and the second pass with water and vinegar only to try to pick up the air dried soap left from the first pass. This requires four charges. I end up spreading this across two days. Scooba does not have a reset button. Once it has started a cycle it can be paused but it will always resume from where it left off. If you have to interrupt it in the drying stage then start it the next day it will resume drying a dry floor - wasting time and battery. I am a little freaked when Scooba slams into my appliances. My stove makes a loud noise but I am more worried about my fridge getting scratched. It would be nice if Scooba had a sensor that made it slow down when approaching obstacles. There is no USB port for software updates.
Pros: Easy Maintenance
Cons: Dirty Water In Tile Grout, Gets stuck on carpet, Gets stuck under cabinets, Hard Bangs Into Appliance, Ineffective brush, No Usb Port For Updates, Slow Charge

Amazing Floor Washer

We have two Golden Retrievers in our home and our hardwood and tile floors get extremely dirty fast. Scooba has helped out immensely by washing, cleaning and drying our floors amazingly. Our floors get so clean, shiny and smell great thanks to our Scooba. My time is now free to do what I want to do and get other things done without having to worry about washing the floors. I really love Scooba's efficiency and the way our floors smell when they're all clean. Scooba is also very easy to maintain. The one thing I don't like is I can't pick up the Scooba during a cycle to move it to a different location without getting an error signal. But other than that, I have no complaints and totally recommend Scooba to everyone especially to those with pets.
Pros: Cleans well, Easy Maintenance, Efficient, Quiet, Shines well
