Wahoo Tickr HR belt

I have bad bluetooth connectivity problems between the belt and my laptop which is right next to me. Pairing box always indicates paired/connected but also "no signal".

Unfortunately, the monitor doesn't work

Unfortunately, the monitor doesn't work well, the values jump around a lot and can be off by 30-40 bpm, both high and low. It doesn't jump abruptly, but goes gradually, over the course of several minutes, so I don't think it is a poor connection with the strap itself. Rather, it appears that it just can't reliably detect my heartbeat. I've tried upgrading the firmware, using gel to improve skin contact and changing batteries, but nothing works. Very disappointing, I can't get a reading that is anywhere near accurate. I know the reading is wrong because I measured my pulse with my finger and a stopwatch whilst the monitor is reporting it's values. To be honest, I'm not sure if the problem is with Wahoo or just that heart rate monitor straps don't work well in general. I plan to try HR monitors from some other companies to see if they work any better.
