[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Light - easy to travel with. Fast - no drag time. Satisfies all of my work, home and leisure computing needs. No hassle setup and I was working within 30 minutes of unpacking.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Its a great laptop, i really recommend it. My only suggestion for improvement would be the shipping because the laptop arrived with a scratch.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very happy with this product so far. Easy to use and navigate. Also sturdy and the waterproof keyboard is a great bonus!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Nice computer. Would show this to a friend to enjoy. Easy to use even for someone that doesn’t know anything about computer. Got the computer for a gift and enjoying it. Nice games on it. Easy to search on it. Not a large computer so it’s not to heavy to transfer to another location
Laptop is good but not as snappy as I'd expect for the price. Overall, the ability 2-in-1 is great for my daughter who likes to utilize the pen to do artsy thing while having the labtop fold completely up.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Pros:
- Excellent keyboard with great haptics, great Fn key management, fairly well sized cursor keys, dedicated Page Up/down/Home/End keys), adjustable keyboard illumination
- Excellent touch screen (responsive, smooth)
- Fast fingerprint reader
- Fast IR camera recognition (also see cons)
- Great connectivity (WiFi, Bluetooth, USB-A on each side, USB-C for data, USB-C for charging, HDMI, micro-SD reader, headphone/microphone port), rarely needs dongles
- SSD replaceable (works great with Samsung 970 Evo Plus 2 TB), cheap 128 GB SSD configurable (X1 Yoga starts at 256 GB)
- Feels fast, including boot times, no crashes
- Privacy slider for camera
- Mute button for microphone
- Solid like a regular laptop, yet convertible
- Pen included and hidden
- Optional world facing camera (also see cons)
- Optional Smart Card reader
- Power button is recessed and needs long press, making it unlikely to press accidentally
- Only the Fn key or the power button end standby, making the keyboard easier to clean
- Available in black (unlike X1 Yoga)
- Keyboard works even with the laptop on its side (unlike on the Surface Pro 4)
Cons:
- Fans turn on fairly often
- Worse sounding speakers than on my phone that also don't get loud enough
- Poor camera, even worse in low light, poorly mounted (partially obscured by display)
- Privacy slider prevents Windows Hello sign in (no dedicated IR camera inaccessible by applications like on the Surface Pro 4)
- Privacy slider shows red dot, no warning if disengaged
- Microphone mute has a glowing LED when engaged, instead of when disengaged
- No privacy slider for world facing camera
- World facing camera is only useful in tablet mode (above keyboard, not on the back of the display)
- No USB-C port for charging on the right side (both sides should have one)
- Fn and Ctrl should be swapped, software swap is incompatible with KeePass 1
- No Fn key on the right side, preventing one handed operation in some cases
- No buttons for Play/Pause, Next, Previous
- Long pressing the touchpad in the bottom right corner doesn't behave the same as long pressing the right button in Total Commander
- ThinkPad and Intel logo below keyboard make typing less comfortable
Pen could be more ergonomic (thicker, less sharp)
- Screen pixel density could be slightly better, but no higher resolution screen offered
- Huge bezel below screen, big bezel above, moderate bezels on the sides
- Maximum screen brightness seems just barely okay inside on a bright day
- Could use subtle markers on the top for port locations
- ThinkPad logo on display seems a bit ticky with the red LED dotting the i
- Low profile + air intake on the bottom are problematic on soft surfaces (e.g. couch)
- A pain to open (e.g. for SSD replacement), easy to break off tabs while doing so
- Only USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 GBit/s)
- No Thunderbolt connectivity
- No HDMI 2.0 or even 2.1
- No digital audio output (e.g. Mini TOSLINK integrated in headphone jack)
- No option for 32 GB RAM
- No option for 10 nm Ice Lake CPUs with faster graphics and RAM
- Bit of a fingerprint magnet
- Strong chemical smell out of the box, mostly gone after two weeks
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This laptop is amazing, it's has everything that I need. Very lightweight, practical, fast and silently. I had looked for months and finally I found just what I was looking for.
