This is a solid purchase. I used it for 1 year professionally and now personally and I am loving it. It does get dirty easily particularly with fingerprints and other things, but cleaning with a but of alcohol does the trick for me. I highly recommend getting the highest specs you can afford, since most things cannot be upgraded after the fact. I don't think shelling a couple of hundred on a touch-screen is worth it, I prefer the wide-quad 300 nits option, since the clarity of the screen is amazing. I took the time to buy all the insurance I could afford since it feels safer this way.. can't comment yet if Lenovo has good customer service if something does go wrong.
Purchased this laptop to replace a 4 year old X1 Carbon used by our CEO. The user loved the portability and long battery runtime of his old model but it was off warranty and had some display issues. We went with the Gen 7 X1 and it's been excellent. It's very light and easy to transport, the battery life is excellent and the build quality is top notch. I appreciate the built-in HDMI connector (no dongle required). I also purchased a USB 3 dock and the wired ethernet adapter. I recommend a dock as that really helps a user who regularly travels out of the office for meetings. Ordering was simple and allowed me to customize the unit to our liking as well as adding in the desired warranty options. Shipping was quite fast too. I would also recommend the purchase of a second charger for travel purposes as the USB dock does not charge the laptop.
I am really enjoying using this laptop. I've used it for a month now. It's sturdy and fits in my purse. I love the keyboard. Its not like those flimsy keyboards. The screen is really great too for someone who stares at computer screens all day. It's not too bright and doesn't have that glare that some laptops have. This is a great laptop for someone who needs to use one all day and works on Word and Excel all day. This can be an awesome laptop for university students, business professionals, and at-home business owners.
Horrible experience. Within first week hard drive stopped working. Laptop gets way too hot.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I own my own business so my laptop is an extension of my body. I'm using it everyday for simple tasks like email and PPT and for more advanced work like audio and video editing.
The X1 Carbon is a beast, I got the 4K display and while the battery life does suffer (I get about 5hours per charge) the vivid display is totally worth it. Watching video and editing photos is amazing with this level of graphics.
The weight makes it awesome for business travel and the 1Tb hard drive means I'll never run out of space like my last laptop.
I give it a 4/5 because of the battery life and the video camera isn't great. At this price point I would expect better.
So far, I am enjoying using the X1 Carbon Gen 7. I was hoping to be able to use two external monitors with this laptop but am unable to do so. If I had known this I would not have purchased a Lenovo " monitor. I already had a monitor. For me to now use the two monitors that I have, it appears as though I may need to buy a docking station. Another $400 expense. Disappointed in that.
