The laptop holder is externally facing, there is no protection for it whatsoever. I do not recommend using this bag for holding a laptop, just clothes and gear.

This is my 6th travel

This is my 6th travel pack. And it's leagues better than all the others (North Face, Osprey, etc). I just took it on a 2.5 week trip to Guatemala and I was able to pack everything I needed: two pairs of pants, 4 pairs of shorts, T's, a dress shirt, socks + underwear, light jacket, waterproof pants, two pairs of shoes, computer + monitor, toiletries, camera gear, and more. I'm thoroughly impressed. Every time I thought I couldn't fit something, another pocket or nook seemed to appear. I convinced two other people to buy this bag while traveling. I'm pretty sure I could use just this bag for months on end (with the occasional washing). Highly recommended.
