The bag is excellent. I could not be happier. The perfect blend of professional and functional. Two suggestions for the next version: a bit of grip on the underside of the shoulder strap and velcro to put the removable interior laptop sleeve in place.

Light weight, good use of space. The zippers are a little tough to zip and unzip. I love the magnetic straps.

My initial thoughts were that

My initial thoughts were that this bag was the best messenger bag I have seen. While this is still a great bag, I think there are some areas that definitely need to be improved upon. I'll start with the pros:
Pros:
-Exceptional organization: The outside compartment really lends itself well to keeping things organized, from cables and power cords to little accessories and such. The separate laptop/ tablet compartment is nice and easily fits my 15-inch Macbook Pro and 11 inch iPad pro, although, with both of them in there, the fit is rather snug
-Nice water-resistant material: I have used this bag in the rain and it has stood up like a champ, keeping all of my electronics safe and dry. The material overall feels solid and very durable.
Cons:
Weight: My main gripe with the bag is how heavy it is loaded up. The bag itself weighs close to 4 pounds, which might not seem like a lot, but once you put a laptop, tablet, and accessories in, you really notice the weight of the bag on your shoulder. If this bag was between 2 and 3 pounds, I think that would make for a much more comfortable carry.
The strap: The strap itself is comfortable; the padding is nice and holds its shape. The problem I have with the strap is how hard it is to adjust the length. There is a seemingly nice adjustment piece, which you are supposed to pull on and then adjust the strap length to your liking. I'm not sure if the one I have is defective, but it is not a simple operation. I have to hold the bottom of the strap with one hand and pull on the adjustment piece with my other hand, which does not make for an easy or practical solution. I have seen others with similar issues with the strap and I really think Nomatic needs to revisit this because it would be so great if it worked as intended. The other issue with the strap is the padding seems to slip off my shoulder quite easily; there is no friction or material underneath the padding to help it stay on my shoulder.
Carry: The last issue with the bag is how awkward it is to carry. With nothing in the bag, it sits well on my hip with the strap over my shoulder and also sits well when I put the strap across my body. But once I put a laptop or anything with structure into the bag, specifically the laptop compartment, it does not sit well at all on my hip or my back. I have adjusted the bag to many different lengths to try and find the sweet spot but to no avail.
Overall, I think this is a great step towards a wonderful product. The organization and material is great, and I think many people will love this bag. I do hope Nomatic addresses some of the issues because I would really love to be able to use this bag, but as it stands today, it is more cumbersome than practical.

Zippers are tough to open

Zippers are tough to open around the corners. Bag does not stay upright, unless laptop is in it. Shoulder strap kinks often.

This is the single best

This is the single best piece I’ve ever purchased. I’ve used several messenger bags and backpacks throughout the years and this is hands down the most useful and efficient bag I’ve ever owned. Good job to the design team!!!

Between the two provided inner

Between the two provided inner sleeves that can be attached by velcro, I would’ve preferred more pockets on both. I’m currently using the thinner one but that leaves a big free flowing open area for stuff to move around inside the zipper. The laptop pocket could be slightly wider. I have a small Dell Latitude 7390 but it is super tight if I put my iPad Pro 11” inch in the other side pocket if laptop is already there so could’ve used a bit more room.

Most likely going to return

Most likely going to return this. Zippers are not very smooth. The laptop sleeve becomes unusable when a Surface Pro with a cover is placed in the laptop pocket of the bag (the bag is becomes too tight). I emailed my concerns. I did get a response from the company that gave me the dimensions for a laptop. I responded that my device was within specs and have heard nothing back. Very disappointing for such a pricey bag, that seems to have some great features and a smart design.

Ah, Nomatic. You confound me
on February 26, 2020

Ah, Nomatic. You confound me with your almost perfect designs that contain inexplicable, boneheaded elements making me want to return the product. But I will probably keep it while being infuriated everyday.
The bag is beautifully designed and laid out with multiple ways to utilize its features. Kudos to the removable panels in main compartment allowing the user to choose the best option. I just removed mine in maximize space and decrease weight. Kudos to forgoing the traditional flap which is a pain for quick access. And the small quick access pouch at top which is perfect size to carry multiple small items without them being buried. Swiss army knife, eye drops, tylenol. tooth paste and brusk etc. all live here without polluting the other three compartments.
The price you pay for the rugged material and thousands of pockets - I’ll never even find them all - is that the bag is relatively heavy. I feel its heft even with almost nothing in it.
The zippers are not ‘like buttah’. Especially around the curves, you have to work hard and it is a bit frustrating. I love the magnetic strap but the darn thing constantly gets twisted up.
The almost killer is the handle. It is so tight to the bag that you can hardly see it and when you do take the time to find it (frustrating when you are in a hurry) I cannot get my hand into it, just a few fingers which hurts after a few minutes. And forget holding it with even thin gloves on a cold Vermont winter day. This is an inexplicable design flaw. Some of the pictures on the website show it a bit looser. So I photographed mine and sent in an inquiry that maybe it was defective. The chipper response was that mine looked to be as intended. So I have this perfect bag that I can’t hold and Nomatic doesn’t seem to care. I decided to return it but couldn’t find another bag as well laid out or exuding the same design sense. I love this bag but am very frustrated by that one feature making it hard to use. Beyond the design flaw i wish I was taken more seriously by customer service when I raised the issue. It is a beauty in so many ways….
