Christmas let down...

Purchased this kit for my 8 year old son for Christmas, and he's really quite the accomplished builder already. This kit is a very enjoyable build and is a solid design. My review is based on the battery power pack that didn't work, and it is certainly difficult to watch your son work very hard on something and it fails to function as it should. Together we both worked through troubleshooting the issue several times over, from batteries, to proper install, to cable placements. The power for the vehicle is a very simple and functional design, so there's only a handful of possible problems to address.....but still not working.
This review is out of more frustration than anything else, as our family loves the LEGO brand and has for many decades. Overall a fantastic product and we will continue being avid fans.

Amazing, Complex build, App works well.

I bought this set because it is different from my other sets, which just sit on my shelf, getting gusty, only to be built, and rarely played with. Now, this has the fun of building it, but more after your done, rewarding you with access, almost like motivation, the app, which allows you to control it. The app works well, and there are different control setups, so you can choose the one you prefer. Only 6 batteries and you can pop some new ones in when they die. The app even has a calibration system, shown as "The Workshop", which calibrates the steering if your vehicle is out of sync. My only real disappointment is that TECHNIC missed out on a great opportunity to make this set the first TECHNIC set to include a Minifigure, which could have been the STIG racer from the show. It would've made this set exclusive, and higher in demand. All in all though, It's a great set.

I was really impressed with the detail of this car and how structurally sound it is. The fun really happens when you go remote and control the car. The turning the phone to turn the tires is ingenious. I dropped the score from 5 because the linking Bluetooth and upgrade of firmware were a bit confusing. Excellent job Lego!

Fast and fun

Pretty cool fast and fun build, no numbered bags, didn't really need them. Wish is was a bigger set.
Love the colors scheme, no real major technic motor build. Very simple set. Fun for all ages, must buy of you dont have it already.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Fun build, fun to play with

It's kind of rare for me to play with any set after it's built. I generally admire it for a while, take it apart (space concerns), and come back to it later to start over. This was a lot of fun to actually play with after it was complete.
One question... Is mine the only one that pulls to the right? Even after re-calibrating the steering, it routinely pulls. Thinking it has something to do with the differential (?) at the rear axle...

Much like a real car...sounds like something might be a little off in the alignment. We'd recommend double-checking your build to make sure everything's in the right spot and that gears have enough room to turn. (Especially make sure the space around the gears is even on each side!)

It's middle of the road.

I received this as a gift for my birthday and had a good enough time building it. I was shocked it needed 6 AA batteries to use but thats minor as I enjoyed playing with it but not enough to permanently devote all those batteries to it full time. My personal beef with it is the high price for the small amount of pieces the set contains and ease of the build. While i'm grateful for the set, I personally would have recommended spending the money on a different set.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Excellent product overall

I’m at the age where i only care about paying my bills so i was very happy that my sister surprised me with this on my bday. I couldn’t wait to build it and i enjoyed every second definitely cheered me up and broke up the monotony of my 60 hour work week schedule. I love the attention to detail and the construction of this model was methodically thought out; although you could probably add a couple more arrows in the directions to show where pieces snap together i had to do a few double takes to assemble. My only issue is that the app might need some minor adjustments. When shifting gears it will show on the app but physically the car is not accelerating it just maintains the same speed; i tested this using both manual and automatic transmission; this happens sometimes not always. Also the tilt mode for steering only works if you hold your phone perfectly center but even then turning can be tricky. I am using an i-phone, but this may be a firm ware issue. On the other hand i think its incredible that you programmed this car to shift gears and for the most part it physically adjusts speed. I love the extra layer of depth that the app provides with sound, challenges and the ability to drive the car using different modes.
