Work as intended, but some issues

Is it a good solution to making your surface pro more lap friendly? Yes.
But there are a couple of cons I can already spot. One is the unnecessary pressure it puts on the side of the screen. To have a good grip it needs to hold on tight and over time this will damage the screen.
The touchpad is definitely something left to be desired, it's not always 100% responsive, but something you can probably get used to.
I'm not sure the trade off of potentially damaging your screen is worth it. Unless you don't have the keyboard on all the time.

Why does the touchpad fail so randomly

The touchpad fails in the cold. Just flat out doesn't work until the thing heats up. Definitely not worth the original pricing, the sale basically gives you a keyboard that can potentially wreck your screen and take 5+ minutes to reconnect after starting up. Really the 30+ extra should have been spent on an actual surface tab replacement.
