Good morning,
We thank you for taking the time to leave a review on your GE top-load refrigerator. We are sorry to hear that the freezer door is popping open. It is not unusual on a two-door refrigerator for one door to pop open when the other door is being closed. The refrigerator and freezer sections are connected by air channels to allow air to pass between them. Slamming or vigorously pushing a door shut forces air from one cavity into the other, often pushing the second door open.
If the freezer door stays open:
Check the leveling legs. The front of the refrigerator should be slightly higher than the back to allow the door to close normally. When properly adjusted, the door will close smoothly and firmly on its own. For information on leveling, see Refrigerator - How to Level.
This does not apply to built-in models. If your built-in model door is popping open, please schedule a service appointment with GE Appliances Factory Service.
Check to see if the refrigerator door gasket is sealing properly. If not, wash the entire gasket with baking soda and water (1 part baking soda to 3 parts water), especially on the hinge side. Then, lubricate the hinge side of the gasket with paraffin wax (not candle wax).
All refrigerator door gaskets are designed to rub against the face of the refrigerator as they close. Keeping the gaskets clean and lubricated prevents them from dragging and restricting door closure.
Place heavier items in the freezer door compartments to provide some ballast (weight), since this is the smaller door and is more likely to pop open.
Make sure there is nothing in the freezer or refrigerator that is preventing a door from closing tightly.
We hope this information is helpful. Thank you for choosing GE Appliances for your home! -Devin@GEA

Serves it's purpose as basement fridge
on May 29, 2023

As titles says I bought this fridge for the basement. Works as expected. I would though mention that the door "suction" is a bit too loose for my liking. The doors tend to open and slightly pop open and close again. Meaning open the fridge and close and the freezer pops open and closes and visa versa. So far, hasn't affected the temperature but that is my long-term concern with this issue.

Regret purchasing this refrigerator
on June 9, 2023

I regret purchasing this refrigerator. There is a distracting grinding, pulsating noise detectable when I am in the living room of my home. When in the kitchen the "whir" sound of the is apparent, but the grinding, pulsating noise, very audible in the living room, is hardly audible in the kitchen. The normal operating sounds of the GE refrigerator I had for 19 years prior to purchasing this refrigerator were much less audible then the sounds of this refrigerator and not distracting or bothersome. The freezer shelf design-shelf sliding into slot-does not allow for easy repositioning of the shelf. In the layout of the kitchen in my home the refrigerator is located flush against a wall. Therefore, the doors cannot be opened far enough to pull out the freezer shelf and the left fruit and vegetable drawer. The edge of the door is in the way of pulling out the freezer shelf and the left fruit and vegetable drawer. I regret purchasing this refrigerator.

New GE fridge replacing 27yr old GE fridge

This is a no frills Fridge, if you are looking for bells and whistles look at something else. The fridge is a little louder than the old one, but nothing to lose sleep over. I have it set at 3 and keeps everything cold on all shelves.
I would recommend this to a friend!
