Most effective brushing system

I've owned several models of Sonic brushes over the last two decades. Yes, they're noisy. Yes, they vibrate. Yes, they'll buzz your teeth. And best of all, YES, they'll keep your teeth and gums in very good condition if you use them correctly. By that I mean, adopt a process of starting with a good gentle flossing and then lots of tooth paste. Process ("brush" but don't reallly brush) one row, one side of the teeth on one jaw at a time; don't press down, don't go fast, don't try to brush like you did with a manual toothbrush. Let the machine do the work. Just touch its bristle ends to your teeth. (You'll waste the brush's useful life by forcing it onto teeth, bending and weakening the bristles) Guide it. Let it have a few seconds per tooth, moving gently from side to side and top to bottom of each tooth. It becomes a meditation, a visualization of each tooth being swept clean. If it takes more than two minutes to finish each tooth in your mouth, you'll know it because the brush keeps time. Finish them all, slowly, gently. You'll begin to take longer and longer to finish because you'll feel how clean your mouth and gums, and even your tongue, can be because of the superior Sonic mechanism. Yep, you have to take off the brush heads and clean them, even soak them in hydrogen peroxide. So what? The net result of all your attention will be clean, smooth to the tongue, healthy teeth. Remember, they have to last you for your whole life, unless you love having poorly cared for teeth pulled by your rich dentist.
Pros: the sonic system works.
Cons: expensive brush heads., vibrations can be uncomfortable

EXPECTED MORE RELIABLITY

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used the Sonicare 5610 Electric Toothbrush and am disappointed.
It always leaves a sticky deposit on the charger base of the unit. I believe it is because the unit is a two piece toothbrush and somehow something seems to leak from the toothbrush to the base, leaving that nasty deposit.
I always take apart the brush and inside where it sits. It also tends to accumulate water inside the top base where the toothbrush is screwed on.
I like the vibration cleaning and am happy with the cleaning process, but am not happy that the charger base has to always be wiped clean. HELP!! any tips from other users??
Pros: cleans well and vibration is strong.
Cons: leaves film on base holder.

Beware of mold problems!
on September 22, 2013

The design is seriously flawed. Mold forms where the head attaches to the handle and water, toothpaste and saliva collect. It's impossible to fully clean and disgusting from a toothbrush. I would not buy this again. Look elsewhere.
Cons: mold grows in toothbrush, impossible to clean

Hi, We’re sorry to hear that that you are having a bad experience with our Philips Sonicare toothbrush.

Philips Sonicare brushes are designed to work in your mouth without too much effort on your part.

To use:
1. Wet the bristles and apply a small amount of toothpaste.
2. Place the toothbrush bristles against the teeth at a slight angle towards the gumline.
3. Press the power on/off button to turn on the Sonicare.
4. Apply light pressure to maximize Sonicare’s effectiveness and let the Sonicare toothbrush do the brushing for you.
5. Gently move the brush head slowly across the teeth in a small back and forth motion so the longer bristles reach between your teeth.
6. Continue this motion throughout your brushing cycle.

Your Philips Sonicare performs best when the brush heads are properly cleaned and replaced every 3 months.

So please keep these simple tips in mind:
• Rinse your Sonicare toothbrush after each use and allow to air-dry completely.
• Remove the brush head and wipe away any residue at least once a week.
• Replace your brush head every 3 months.

If the problem still persists, please reach out to Philips Consumer Care on 1-800-682-7664

Down side it that you have to dissenter the brush head and clean it under running water before mold starts to grow.

Bad choice

EThis toothbrush creates slime and bacteria buildup. The whole head unit needs to be replaced when the bristles are worn which is very expensive.

Easy to use but poor quality

The toothbrush is easy to use and the charge is amazing, but the slime and build up where the head attaches to the base of the toothbrush is gross. The whole inside of my toothbrush was filled with nasty brown residue. It is hard to keep using this toothbrush even after I cleaned it, just knowing that it was like that freaks me out. I would recommend buying a toothbrush that only has the brush to insert instead of the whole base including the brush that attaches to the body.
Pros: battery life
Cons: design, bacteria

If your looking for something that will do a great job cleaning your teeth for not a lot of money than this is the product you need. Easy to use and charge and does an awesome job for little to no money. I do wish the replacement heads weren't so expensive though.
