Really flawed design
on June 24, 2016

As others have noted, the plunger design is inadequate. As the plunger is smaller in diameter than the feed tube, there is no way to keep the auger full. If you use it, you will starve the casing and introduce air into the system. I would guess that a larger diameter plunger might work, but I'm not going to waste more money on this attachment.

Terrible plunger design

Like other reviewers have stated, the plunger's diameter is just too small and doesn't create any type of seal and also allows air in. While pushing the meat down the tube the meat just squishes around the edges. I even kept the meat in the freezer ahead of time to keep it cold as is recommended for sausage making. I abandoned attempting to make sausages altogether and ended up pan frying the meat in patties. This product is so bad it actually prompted me to write my first review of a product ever.

decent meat grinder, unacceptable sausage stuffer

Last night, I used the KitchenAid FGA to grind 20 pounds of pork butt. Although it was a bit slower than dedicated grinders, and required me to cut the raw meat into smaller chunks, I knew what I was probably getting into with an entry-level attachment for an existing appliance and was generally pleased with the results.
After refrigerating the ground meat overnight, I expected to have an equally satisfying experience putting the ground pork into casings using the KitchenAid SSA. Unfortunately, that was not the case.
The tapered stuffing horn isn't long enough to accommodate a standard length of hog casing without bunching up, and the reduced diameter of the nozzle output increases resistance and makes pushing the ground meat into the throat of the FGA a real chore.
The critical flaw it that the pusher/wrench tool (while it works fine for pushing meat into the auger/worm mechanism for grinding) is not properly designed for pushing already ground meat into the auger/worm mechanism for stuffing sausages. It doesn't make an airtight seal with the throat of the FGA like you get with single-purpose stuffers that have an o-ring, and it doesn't have an escape valve for trapped air to get pushed out. The result is a messy and ineffectual stuffing effort that's more frustrating than anything else.
I love all my KitchenAid appliances and accessories, but this is the exception. I will continue to use the KitchenAid FGA for grinding small batches of meat, but I will be going out to get a real stuffer tomorrow. Today's experience with the SSA was bad enough that I have no desire to repeat it again.

WRENCH PUSHER

I DO AGREE WITH EVERYONE ABOUT THE PUSHER.
I FIXED THE PROBLEM BY PURCHASING A WOODEN DOWEL THE SAME DIAMETER AS THE TUBE.
YOU CAN ROUND BOTH ENDS WITH SAND PAPER AND SOAK IN OLIVE OIL FOR A DAY YOU GET NO MEAT STICKING ON THE PUSHER AND NO AIR POCKETS.
HOPE THIS HELPS EVERYONE.

Kitchenaide bombed this one

Considering the quality of the mixer I thought that I would give this a try. Its a disaster! Between the air bubbles being pushed into the meat casing the plunger not pushing the meat properly into hole the plunger constantly getting meat stuck all over it forcing you to clean it every couple of minutes, the meat barely going through, it's a horror what should have taken me 15 min took me almost two hours! Never again will I use this attachment.

Bad design

I have both the new and old stuffer grinder. the old one cracked after many years, not unexpected. Bought a new one with the magic all-in-one plunger wrench, its garbage. Luckily I still had the wooden plunger from the old grinder, which works wonderfully. Seems like the designer never actually used the new plunger.

Don't waste your money. It seems like a good/cheap accessory to add to your food grinder, but it's way more frustrating than its worth. Took me and my roommate over an hour to get ~2lbs of bratwurst stuffed with this thing. Inconsistent feed, tons of air bubbles, the meat pusher they include with the grinder kit works well for grinding but is worthless for stuffing already ground foods... It's a terrible system.
