Great watch for monitoring fitness data

I received this watch as a backer and am extremely happy with it so far. Not having to take it off and charge it is a big deal for me. It's very comfortable to wear and all the basic functions that matter to me work well. It connects to my phone via Bluetooth and provides the app with steps, calories burned, heart rate and sleep pattern data. I can customize which apps I get notifications from. The watch will lightly vibrate when a notification comes in but you only get to see the first few characters of the message on the watch. Hopefully that improves with updates. It's got a GPS that can be used to track a run or walk but I haven't tested that yet.

Problematic firmware

I bought one in March. Up to July, except minor problems (sync, GPS..), it worked fine. Problem: in July, Matrix published a firmware update that completely locks the device: all measurements are now dead (heart rate, step counter, GPS...), and even the time is not refreshed. Official support contacted, but does not respond.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great watch!

Been looking for a while for a smart watch that doesn't require a charger and looks like I found it! Had the watch for just a little over a month and I love it. Not too heavy, it's durable and haven't used the charger yet. The supply charger is basically a little heating pad that you set the watch on and warms up the bottom of the watch. GPS app that come with it are good they cover the normal activity such as running/walking indoor/outdoor and cycling outdoor. They log your outdoor activity and show the path on google map which is great. The creator of the watch keeps improving the OS of the watch to make it better and more efficient. They added timer, stop watch and latest add-on was the alarm as of Feb 1 2020. They also added motion detection for the light so you can turn on the backlight by either double tapping the watch or wrist movement. The default is to hold the back button for 3 second. Looking forward to new firmware update!

The Good and the Bad

I was excited to be able to get this watch. I wanted to see and feel it before spending $500 on a watch. Here is what I found. This watch is pretty amazing. Feels great on your wrist and wears nicely. Unbelievably light. Feels like it’s not there and not too bulky. Just the right size. Beautiful display. Time mode works great. Heart rate monitor is on point and step counter is on point as well. There are few things that need improvement. I did not like that I had to upgrade firmware almost daily. It’s annoying. During running. Pace display is so small that it was very hard to read. Which I’m sure is easily fixed with an update. I was unable to get backlight to work. Again. Update issue. Buttons were stiff. Which is not a big issue. But I’m afraid that as they wear they will have issues. To sum up. I like the watch. Looks and wear very nice. Feels great on wrist. Few firmware issues. Buts that’s understandable as manufacturer is constantly working to improve on it.

DO NOT BUY THIS WATCH!

The software is buggy, the connection is spotty, and most importantly, the warranty is a MYTH.
My watch started messing up after about 6 months. It wouldn't wake up in the morning with me, and the only way to get it back was to put it on its charger... but even that didn't work sometimes.. occasionally it'd take sending it a notification (assuming it came through), or rebooting it just to get it to turn on.
Nevermind its inability to accurately count steps (days I've spent the entire day on my feet register ~80 steps).
So I contacted their support. After a few back & forths, they said, "we'll send you a return label to send it in for warranty repair".
That was 3 months ago.
After month 2, I emailed and said, "um.. when can I expect this."
Their response was, "because of COVID we're behind; you should expect that". Talk about managing expectations.
Needless to say, that was over a month ago. I don't think I'm getting warranty help at all.
DO NOT DROP ALL THAT MONEY ON THIS WATCH; YOU WILL REGRET IT.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Innovative but....

I've been looking to get a smartwatch to track my running sessions and decided to try the Powerwatch. The once thing I love about this watch is the fact you never have to charge it via cable USB. They're not joking when they say your body temperature keeps it charged, as well as solar power. Amazing but I did see a few things I did not like. Syncing your exercise data with the application wasn't great. Often it wouldn't sync at all to the point that I had to restart the watch and pair it with my phone more than a few times so it could work. After awhile it gets annoying and it's a real shame cause the app interface looks great. The 4 buttons are way too hard if you compare it to the Suunto or Garmin, I had to press them hard for them to work, this could be a real nuisance while running. When it comes to features, the Suunto or Garmin are way ahead. This alone can overthrow the innovative technology the Powerwatch offers. However, I do hope they test it with more athletes and listen so they can make their products even better. They certainly have a future!

Purchased the Medium model as a Backer in Jan., 2019. Received my watch Jan., 2020.
There have been issues, and bugs, and glitches as one would expect with a new product.
Will you 'never' have to charge this watch? No, about 4-6 months I go below 30% Batt. and put the watch on the charging puck to get back to 100%. Other than that, it has not been off my wrist.
I have been able to shed 15lbs over the last year, probably with this watches help.
The latest firmware has made the watch very stable in my eyes, and added some nice features.
