SImply works. It's simple. Unfortunately, mine worked just fine less than 10 times before it wouldn't shut off. The top depresses as the on/off button. I may have crushed the button in the ON position by applying too much pressure when holding it down on the Wide-Mouth Jar Sealer that I purchased at the same time. The jar sealer has a "defect" with raised lettering on the top that prevents a proper seal without pushing down hard. I believe the jar sealer was made for use with the hose attachment to larger units before the hand-held unit was available. This is an easy oversight. Nevertheless, I hope FoodSaver is able to fix this soon so folks can get proper seals on the jar sealer using the hand-held V1100 unit.
As for the vacuum, I can't tell for sure if I'm getting the same vacuum power results from this unit as I would from a larger unit, but it's plenty strong enough for "dry canning". By that, I mean popping the lids on my mason jars with enough suction to lift the jar and ingredients by the lid without it coming off. Of course, this isn't proper canning by any means, but it is sufficient to keep my dry ingredients safe from insects and extend the freshness. Which is what I am looking for.
Most folks with problems have reported that the vacuum doesn't work, or that the unit won't turn on. So far, I'm the only to report that the unit won't turn off. I had to wait for the battery to die down. Then recharge. But after the third time of being unable to turn the unit off, I called support to process a return.
Support was very helpful and a new unit is on its way. So the jury is still out on this which is why I can't give 5-stars overall. Kudos to product support for helping push the rating up. I know there is a percentage of product failures and I just happened to get one. How it's handled can make all the difference. Good job so far FoodSaver.

Its not been too long in use but, seems to be a good sealer. I preferred the heft of the older, white model and this model is almost too quiet but gets the job done.
Until 2018 I used counter units, changing to hand held when we sold our home to downsize. I was surprised that my first hand held only lasted 2 years. Hope this does better.
I like it and have recommended this model to other, two person, apartment living friends.

Absolutely love this! Our family is grown and on their own, so no need for the bigger units. I'll be purchasing this for my son also!
Only slight negative is you cannot use the freezer rolls, but that is not that big of a deal! Highly recommend!

Terrible Device

I have always had a FoodSaver vacuum. I have the older handheld and it still works. I’ve had three of these and every single one has stopped working. No reason. I don’t know why this is even made and can’t figure out why they stop working. I’ve had FoodSaver products for years!

Disappointment with this product

"I purchased a portable cordless vacuum sealer, but it turned out to be a complete disappointment. The pins that allow the unit to recharge got stuck and broke on the first one I bought, rendering it useless. Thinking it was, I bought another one, but to my dismay, the same thing happened again. I strongly advise against buying this product as it seems poorly made and not worth the a one-off issue money. It appears as though they designed it to fail quickly and take your hard-earned money. The sad thing is that the system does not allow giving a lower than one star; if it were possible, I would give it a zero."
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

compact, simple, useful, impressive

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a full size vacuum sealer, and was pleasantly surprised how well this compact little device works. Simply put appropriate food in the zipper bags, zip shut, press the vacuum sealer against the well marked gray circle on the bag, remove air. That simple! It has a useful (also compact) charging port. Just drop it in to charge. This will very useful not only for extending life of normal kitchen food, but will be great for picnics, traveling, hiking, or backpacking trips.
