At the time the package changed from silver to brown, thje Verona Dark Bean is not the same. I don't care what they say, IT'S NOT THE SAME.

May be dissapointed if you've been drinking French Roast or Espresso

First off it's woefully under-roasted. It's a funky blend of various size beans from all over the world that all seem to have their own level of roast and taste. Blends rarely work for coffee connoisseurs, and this is no exception. It tastes tinny, metallic almost thin, like you've already run it through the machine 2-3 times. No real flavor so to speak other than a weak bitterness somewhere, and VERY acidic. This blend will certainly let your tummy know you've just drank a cup. Finally it leaves a dead aftertaste, like you've just tried coffee that was brewed 4 days ago and reheated. Nah, SB's French Roast and Espresso Roast are top of the line, superior coffees that shouldn't even have to share the same shelf with this stuff. Best pre-roasted coffee on the market: Starbucks French Roast. <<-- read that again. Only coffee that beats it is Hawaiian grown on a private estate on Molokai, roasted YOURSELF in small batches to an oily black (but not sooty) perfect roast. Problem with Hawaiian Molokai estate: it's $120/lb and the waiting list is 2 yrs+. 3rd runner up for best pre-roasted coffee on the planet: Starbucks Espresso roast. Yes, they've perfected it. Summary for this Verona blend: Cool name, but that's about it.

I have been enjoying Caffe Verona since its introduction to the consumers at large. It was one of the pleasures to get up in the morning to my first cup of Caffe Verona until the last purchase in the new packaging. Ugh it is BITTER. It taste like burned carbon. What did you do????

Not My Favorite

Have had a few dark roasts thru the years, and while this one isn't bad, it just isn't something I'd buy again. Not very aromatic, and consequently, not as rich in flavor. It would be good for someone who had never had, or didn't like French Roast; especially if medium was your favorite. Maybe a good starter dark, but not for anyone who drinks/loves French or Italian roast.

When I opened the first bag no scent of fresh coffee greeted me. Tasting confirmed that the Coffee was stale. Five bags returned.

My husband and I are coffee hounds and enjoy a rich cup of dark roast coffee. Caffe Verona used to be one of our favorites. Don't get me wrong, it still is a great coffee, but I feel the Sumatra will overpower my first cup of coffee in the morning. Waiting for my shipment to come in so I can have a great hardy cup of java.
