The screen has a bit of light bleed in one area. It's very unstable with Linux -- I actually bought it to install Linux, but Lenovo's great track record here has failed in this case. The Lenovo software is idiotic -- I tried to disable WiFi which put Windows into airplane mode, but charging stopped working. How do you even break something like that?
It is well made and is quite powerful. I somewhat wish I had purchased another system instead for better Linux support, but I've resigned myself to keep this one because I like the sturdy build and power. I holding out hope that Linux support will come eventually though.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've enjoyed my Thinkpad P53 so far. Setup was fairly easy. The SSD is fast. The build quality actually feels more solid than my previous W530. The battery adapter is much smaller than the older models, so that is a plus. The laptop itself is a somewhat hefty piece of equipment, but I guess that's to be expected for what is essentially a portable desktop. The built-in indicator LEDs (F1, NumLock, network, and hard drive) are way too bright and there's no way to turn them off. I'm sensitive to high contrast lights, so that will be a bit of a quality of life issue. I haven't really put this laptop through it's paces yet, but I certainly will, and if my past experience with high end ThinkPads is any indication, this laptop will handle all challenges well.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Great laptop so far. Runs games well. Mostly going to be using it for college for Mechanical Engineering.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Device computing resources are awesome, the 8 core processor is top-notch, I can run multiple VM's or containers using the equipped RAM, VGA Card is beast 8 Gb of DDR5
I purchased a P53 with the 5000 model GPU. Unfortunately, the GPU throttles under any serious load. The issue may have been specific to the build I received, or perhaps it is a design flaw in this model. When training a deep learning model, the fan would make an unpleasant clicking noise for the first few epochs (you could actually count the epochs using the clicks) and then it would slow down to roughly the speed of my old P51. The same thing would happen when playing factorio, except there it would actually become *slower* than the older model. Since this is useless for either work or leisure, I sent it back for replacement. If the new replacement has the same issue, I will be returning the equipment altogether.
