[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This laptop is a great computer. In my regular workflow I need to run modeling applications like Rhino 6 and Autocad and some creative applications like those in the Adobe suite. Thus far it does all of the above with flying colors. The reason I give this laptop 4/5 is because it doesn’t render at lightning speed. If you are ok with a laptop that runs applications at a decent (not excellent) speed, this is the laptop for you.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A true workhorse

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm a computer science undergrad student and recently got an internship working on the Linux kernel, bought this as a present to myself and as a needed upgrade from my old MBP Retina 13" running an i5.
This thing is a beast! It truly is a "mobile workstation"; it actually performs significantly better than my desktop (currently running i7 7700k) for compiling/working/coding.
First thing I did was put Linux on it (Gentoo) and it can compile for days! Kernel and package compilations are quick and easy. I love having the freedom to modify and replace the parts. This laptpo is truly powerful and I'm loving it.
My only concern with this laptop is the temps; even with powersave settings in BIOS + security disabled + Intel psave the laptop reaches temps of 95C+ while compiling. During standard use it runs just fine, smooth as butter, no temp issues. Only while compiling do the temps get really high, even when I'm not using all of the cores. Many others have said this as well; don't doubt that this thing gets hot! It packs a lot of power in a small frame, plus we all know Intel runs hot.
I hope temps aren't an issue in the long run-- it is concerning seeing the temp at 100C while I'm compiling for an hour. I would like to open it up eventually and repaste the CPU + apply a thermal pad.
Haven't really used the Nvidia card as I don't really have a use for it so can't say much there. I believe the Optimus config for this laptop only works using the iGPU as primary with offloading to the Nvidia card; meaning you manually run programs with Optimus parameters if you want to use them under the Nvidia card.
For those that are interested in running Linux on this bad boy: do it, you'll love it. Everything works flawlessly (webcam, fingerprint reader, trackpad, SD reader, ethernet, USB C + A ports) so no need to worry. Depending on the distro you might need to do some playing around but do know that everything can be functional.
TL;DR this machine can compile for days, high temps under heavy workloads, a real mobile workstation experience
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Strong CPU. Great for all my work needs. Runs perfectly with the multitude of programs that I have open.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I bought this laptop a 2 weeks ago, I had a computer that I thught that was fast, but this laptop is in another level, is really fast, I have to use some applications that usually wore a pair of minutes to open, and now open in no more thant 30 secounds, the keyboard is amazing, I never had a lenovo before but after bought this laptop I never I'll never have other brand that this, the build quality is also brillant, the laptop feel solid and all is well adjusted, is cool too, the only way to feel some hot is touching the vents directly and still is warm, the display off course is great, the ports variety is perfect, and the video performance in games is great too. this laptop is a must for anyone that want to work seriuly.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The off-center track-pad is annoying. I get why it's placed where it is, (to position it relative to the qwerty portion of the keyboard, which is offset to accommodate the numeric key pad. . .) but coming from an Apple device, I keep hitting the center 'mouse' button instead of the left button. YMMV.
I didn't really want the numeric pad, either, but you don't seem to get much choice in the 15.6" cases. Also, the track-pad is a little over-sensitive when scrolling; occasionally the screen will flip back a few lines as you pick up your fingers to reposition them, or if you're going to type. Get the touchscreen; it's much easier to use than the track-pad! (at least for me)
Also, when operating on wall power, the screen brightness increases abruptly about 3-4 minutes after power-on, which is generally just as I've got settled into whatever task I turned on the computer for. Not sure if that's a win10 thing, or a Lenovo thing, but it's distracting the first couple times it happens.
Runs Fusion360 well, but I haven't yet installed the Solidworks package the machine is intended to have. . . .
