GE disposers can grind food waste at a rate of 8000 rpms. It is powerful enough to grind chicken bones and small steak bones. A disposer can sound like a blender running or even a small vacuum sweeper. This is normal. If you feel that the noise level is excessive, please see the following link: http://products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=18260
Just installed the disposall. Everything went Ok. Replaced a 10 yr old GE with the same mounting system and size. Hard getting the old mounting ring loose. Also, as other reviewers stated, it was VERY hard to remove the punch out for the dishwasher. They need another system. The old and new units were/are installed at a vacation home. The old unit started “freezing” in place due to no use. Difficult to unfreeze because you had to use a broom stick instead of a typical key. This one is the same keyless type but it a newer model and 1/2 ho instead of 1/3. Hopefully it doesn’t develop the same problem. Time will tell.
