Frame arrived cracked

I was thinking of buying The Frame TV when I saw this one. I immediately purchased because it was white and had an interesting ambient mode. I wanted it replace an aging white tv in my bedroom. I was so excited. I didn’t read the reviews until waiting on the tv to arrive. When I read about the frame cracking, I thought I’d be extra careful and hire people to unbox and set it up for me. Unfortunately mine was cracked more severely than the pictures of the others. I cannot take a chance with getting a replacement because I believe the frame was designed weak.
Cons: Poor quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Almost Perfect

I was initially worried how the TV would arrive based on what another reviewer posted, but I'm glad to say the TV arrived in flawless condition. I purchase direct from Samsung and it arrived via FedEx.
The TV is close to perfect. It's physically magnificent. It's easy to set up. Cable management is perfectly executed. The image is incredible. It has all the connectivity you could ask for. Built-in Airplay works great. Basic on/off works with Alexa. Remote control functionality with receivers and game consoles works flawlessly. The built in speakers are good (but don't get terribly loud, FYI). The built in stand is incredible and actually makes this TV essentially impossible to tip. It's actually more secure with the built in stand than resting on a table or console—who knew. It does sit low with its own stand, however iit's the perfect height if you are sitting on a couch right in front of it. Blah, blah, blah. All of this is essentially just me confirming the the marketing copy is accurate. Here's something they don't tell you: the bezel creates a unique effect.
What do I mean by this? When the TV is on and the room is dark there's an interesting "shadow" that forms around the TV due to the way light flows around the bezel. I have the white model (the only one available at time of writing this), and the only way I can describe it is a "reverse shadow". I can see that some people might not like this, but I love it. It sort of locks your eyes into the screen area. I have the TV set up relatively close—which I believe enhances this effect—and I highly recommend it. I actually want this effect, whatever it is, on all future TVs. It's AWESOME. It's cool with color content, and somehow even cooler with B&W content.
So why isn't it perfect? A lot of little things. The software is garbage. Straight garbage. This is what I expect from Samsung though. Samsung makes 100% hot garbage software. Bixby is worthless, turn it off immediately. The fact that this TV has ads is absurd, but since you will only want to interact with the UI sparingly it doesn't much matter. Some of the Eco settings reset to default automatically. Ambient mode is cool, but you have to enter it manually as far as I can tell, which makes it sort of useless for me. The apps are slow and crash all the time… do yourself a favor and use an iOS device to control content. The included remote is functional, but again you are better off using the SmartThings app to control the TV. All of this could be fixed with a software update, but knowing Samsung they will never do it so I won't hold out hope. Instead they'll fix 50% of the issues in next year's model revision and introduce a dozen new bugs.
Overall, this is the best TV I have ever used. IMO it is better than The Frame because of the unique bezel effect. The image quality is essentially 100% based on the 4k/1080p content I have available (iTunes/AirPlay, Netflix, Hulu, PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch). There might be some better TVs out there on paper, but I don't have the content to drive them. I hope they continue to make The Serif into the future. IMO this is what a TV should be.
Pros: Realistic color, Bright display, Durable

Serif TV is extremely fragile.

I bought a 55” Serif TV a week ago and when I opened the box, I noticed that the frame was cracked. I didn’t take pictures of the first TV to give a benefit of the doubt and returned the TV and bout another one hoping that I wouldn’t have the same problem.
Well the second TV came and this too came cracked as well. I was really looking forward to the TV but I ended up disappointed. I didn’t even get to plug in either of the TVs to experience the QLED 4K display with the built-in Airplay 2 and all the bells and whistles. This one is going right back from where it came from.
This is the 3rd Serif TV that I know of that has cracked. If you look at the 1st reviewer’s posting, you can see a picture of his cracked TV. This not a tolerance issue.
The plastic frame is brittle. Either the plastic was processed wrong or Samsung selected the wrong resin. I’m surprise that a product such as this got released to the public. This product should have passed all ISTA transportation test which subjects the product to bump, vibe, and shock test which should have exposed the product weakness either in the product or in the packaging.
I will not buy this TV again until Samsung fixes the cracking frame.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations

Beautifully Designed + World Class Technology

I just received my Serif last week. It’s absolutely stunning and looks good off, with ambient mode, or fully operational. If you have a keen sense of design like myself, then this is the TV for you. Beautiful form meets pragmatic function. It is the Eames chair of televisions. Love it!
This is a very interesting TV. I love the design and am a fan of the Bouroullecs' body of work. It's an ambitious form that situates itself well in space. In particular, the white frame really diffuses the effect of the 55 inch screen while still creating a great focal point. This object creates more space than it consumes.
The visual technology is top notch and the interface is easy. It has everything you would expect from a Samsung television.
Unfortunately, it appears that the manufacturing tolerances are a bit too tight. Our TV arrived with a small crack in the plastic housing. The packaging is incredibly sturdy and it's unlikely that this damage happened in transit. It seems that this particular area (see photos) is particularly thin and fragile. This quality condition has been a recurring theme in my many years of purchasing contemporary furniture, so my frustration is muted at this point. It's a great product otherwise and I can live with the damage.
Overall, I greatly appreciate Samsung for taking this risk with such a bold and beautiful piece.
I would recommend this to a friend!
