No more chilly evenings!

I've always wanted a patio heater. The company my wife works for offered a patio heater as a 30 year service award so we jumped at selecting it. I was very pleased to find out it was a "Fire Sense" product. We've built an extensive park in our back yard including a large sitting area, fire pit and water feature. On evenings when we wanted to sit out, but not go to the trouble of starting a fire, the patio heater is perfect. Plus my wife won't complain about the "smoky" smell on our clothes. The heater is well constructed and made from heavy gauge steel. It went together easily. The manual that came in the box has numerous errors referring to incorrect part names during the assembly. I later found the online manual is different, and correct. Trying to start the heater for the first time the igniter failed so I changed the battery. It still didn't light so I used a butane fire stick. The next morning I called customer service and spoke to Jason. He told me to turn the battery around to change the polarity. I thought it was strange because the way the battery holder/igniter button is constructed is counter intuitive to the way the battery should be installed. After changing the polarity the igniter worked. As an aside, the manual does not show where to install, or how to install, the battery. So this would be my only negative comment. .

This thing seems pretty cool. It was easy enough to assemble, with clear and concise instructions. The operation is straightforward. My only concern is storage. I have no idea where to put it when it's not in use.

Patio Heaters in the High Desert

We have two patio heaters which are easy to move and put out a lot of heat. The only issue I have had is one of the heater's thermo couple had issues from day one. When I finally got ahold of a service rep, I was talked through troubleshooting and ended up just tightening the device. It worked for two cool seasons, but is not working this fall. On hold now waiting to be sure I order the right part.

Pleasantly surprised about both the quality and appearance of this heater! Be sure to follow the instructions about filling base with sand. Enjoy the warmth on cooler days and nights!. Have been very satisfied with all our fire sense purchases. Sure to continue using them even after the pandemic

I purchased 2 heaters and they were very easy to assemble. Everything fit together very nicely. The instructions were clearly written.
In terms of performance, I was very pleased with the coverage. Last weekend, with evening temperature in the high 40’s, we had guests who were very comfortable.
The only issue I had was during set up. It took much longer than 1-2 minutes to get the propane to where it needed to go for ignition. After several attempts was finally able to get these lamps fired up.

Very easy to assemble

I was dreading another of these assemble yourself projects. So often, the instructions are bad, the parts are a mess and it is aggravating to deal with. This time, I was pleasantly surprised.

The hardware was packaged very nicely on a cardboard page. The different parts were separated and sealed in their own compartment on the sheet. The sheet was marked corresponding to the instructions, so you knew which part to use and how many pieces were needed to complete that step. The instructions were clear and referenced the parts package.

Assembly took about an hour as predicted and was not terribly difficult. If you do buy this item, I recommend using a socket wrench in place of the punched steel "wrench" they give you. Also, make sure you have 20lbs of sand to fill the base with if you are in a climate where the temperature gets below freezing. You need the sand right at the beginning.

Hooking up the propane tank went well and it is good that they tell you how to test for leaks. That is not something I would have thought of myself. On that note, there is one thing I noticed after the heater was assembled. There is a plate attached to the post that has the lighting instructions printed on it. It would make sense to orient that plate so it is just below the igniter and knob so you can see it when you are ready to light the heater. I am not sure if I missed that in the instructions, but, keep that in mind when assembling. It was not a big enough deal for me to disassemble/re-assemble the unit, though. The assembled unit seems very sturdy, I have no fear of it being wobbly or falling apart.

We fired it up one afternoon when it was a bit chilly and windy. It felt like the heat radiated about 4-5 feet from the unit, but because of the wind I could not say for sure. I have yet to try it on a day where more than a light sweater is needed. We'll have to see about that.
