Easy to setup and performance mesh routing
on May 29, 2019

Configuration of the Orbi is one of the easiest I've done, and I have confirmed a number of network devices at home and at work. The performance is where it really shines, especially when you understand that there really is no hard line. There are some gotchas.
There are some gotchas. Most of the Orbi color states are self explanatory. However sometimes it's not clear why it's in that state. Troubleshooting is where the ease of use of the interface gets in the way. The more complex options or tools useful in trouble shooting, if you are familiar with networking, are harder to find or absent. However most issues can be solved with judicious reboots, or playing with the location of the actual device and measuring throughput.
Despite a lack of some troubleshooting tools Orbi is still heads above in setup and performance. I have not tried the other mesh network devices, primary because I've been so satisfied if the Orbi.

Works Well In Challenging Home
on May 29, 2019

I live in a 1450 sq ft home. I don't know what it is but it has always been challenging to get WiFi from Living Room to the bedroom I use as an office. I tried WiFi extenders, more powerful routers which helped but were never able to provide consistent good WiFi. It required a reboot multiple times a week and I always encountered buffering issues. Then I tried this model of Orbi. I got it because of the advertised coverage. When I first connected it I got a maroon color on the satellite module. At first I thought my house just didn't like to have WiFi. Then after moving it a little, I got what appeared to be a good connection. After going through the initial setup, I had to reboot everything. Then I saw very good reception on all devices throughout my home. Not just a connection but one with the speed I was paying my ISP to provide. I finally have very good coverage in my home and am enjoying it. I would highly recommend this product.

Dedicated Backhaul and Ports make the difference.

After extensive comparison shopping for a mesh network setup for my home, I settled on Orbi as they were superior in a couple of ways. The first is the dedicated backhaul links. As a result, I am not seeing any significant speed drop across my 3 device setup. The second stand out for me was that each device has 4 ethernet ports per. Other products have fewer or, in some cases, none at all. The router management and setup UX is below average, but totally functional. I'd like to see their management tools step up to match the quality of the hardware. The design is very modern looking, but not practical if you want to wall mount. I have mine stashed away our of sight, but in tighter spaces where countertop space is a premium I'd rather not have this guy taking it up. Very pleased with this from setup to day-to-day use. The signal strength and network speed improvements have made this a solid recommendation for me to my friends and family.

Delivers WiFi as Advertised

Was not sure the Orbi AC3000 would solve the weak signal issues in my 4500 SF house. The internet modem is located in the basement, in the furnace room. There is exposed ductwork directly above the location where the Orbi sets. I needed WiFi signal downstairs as well as upstairs, as we have various smart devices that are connected via WiFi (thermostats, tablets, phones, printers, TVs, etc.). In addition, we have an internet-enabled TV in the garage. Our house is ICF construction (i.e. concrete), so the signal to the garage can only go through the door between the house and the garage. I was hopeful that I could get a signal out there, but was not really expecting much. I am pleased to say that the WiFi signal throughout both floors of the house is equally strong no matter where you stand. In addition, the WiFi signal in the garage is the best we have ever had, and more than sufficient to stream video and music. Setup was quick and easy.

Excellent Product

We moved into a new house in the hills a year ago. Our WiFi was horrible since we moved in and I thought it was the fault of the ISP. Our connection dropped ALL THE TIME and we could not stream a movie due to the constant buffering. I would have to reboot the modem/router several times a day. Most times our devices would not even connect to the WiFi. Then, I saw an ad for Orbi. OMG it is fantastic!!!! Since I installed it, which only took a few minutes, we have OUTSTANDING WiFi. It is really unbelievable. We are so pleased. We are beyond ecstatic. Since installing Orbi, our connection has NEVER dropped, our devices connect automatically and quickly, and we have streamed probably 12 movies with absolutely no buffering. Orbi is well worth the cost for the ease, the peace of mind and not having to constantly mess with the WiFi. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! We are extremely satisfied and have recommended Orbi to all of our family and friends.

Fast speeds and amazing convenience

I purchased the Orbi router and Orbi satellite for my 1400 sqft home. I previously had very poor connection in the back of the house and poor WiFi speeds. Before Orbi, my PS4 on the WiFi network of a 200mbps internet packet reported a dismal 3-5 mbps download speed. With Orbi, it is consistently 35+, which is excellent for WiFi. I have no need to hardwire any of my devices. Between me and my partner we have 2 phones, 2 iPads, 2 laptops, and 2 PS4s connected to the router. Everything performs optimally. When a guest comes over and needs our WiFi password, I can just hit a button on my phone and they're connected. The range of the router is excellent. I have not yet needed to hook up the satellite as the Orbi alone covers the whole house. Setup was very easy. There were clear instructions and the process was a breeze. It came with its own secure network name password but allowed the option to change the name/password. Well worth the investment.

It's all covered

I wasn't sure if this system would be a great replacement for my old D-Link DIR-645, but after hearing my 14 year old whine for the thousandth time that his games were lagging - I finally made the switch. The Orbi is very easy to set up and definitely reaches the little troll's basement hideout and the lack of whining has been absolutely fabulous. I've also noticed that multiple devices can now stream simultaneously without any lag all across my 3,600 sqft house (even downstairs and in the garage).
Pros: - Easy to set up - Easy to administer - Reaches everywhere it's needed - Fast, strong signal(s) - 2.4 and 5 GHz bands for regular and guest networks - Comprehensive logging & metering
Cons: - OpenDNS configuration seems like it's just a subset of OpenDNS itself and doesn't seem to use my long-standing rules/whitelist/blacklist from the OpenDNS website - Android app is slow and buggy, but thankfully the web-based administration is not

Expensive, but well worth it

I was looking for better Wi-Fi coverage and tried all of the traditional options (moving the exiting router, wireless extenders, power line extenders, etc.). None of them got me the results I was looking for. I did considerable research and read all of the reviews on the RBK50. Finally I decided it would spend the extra and try the unit. It was well worth it. The coverage I now have is incredible. With that being said, I'm not covering a 5000 square foot house on one level. I've got an 1800 sq ft house with a full basement (not in the 1800 ft). I've got the main unit on the 2nd floor and the satellite on the main level. One of my big concerns was full coverage in the basement for Wi-Fi leak detectors. I needed that coverage to be 100% solid. I have a 100mbs service coming in the house and now I have 100mbs+ on all 3 floors. This is my 3rd NetGear, however I've also used other OEM's. This was expensive, but well worth the investment.
