Simple, easy to use mesh network

I did a lot of reading about various mesh systems before deciding on this one. My main interests in this were the dedicated third band, the coverage size, and ability to expand with extra satellites.
Set up took no more than maybe 10 minutes. It was incredibly simple.
I live in a 2-story, 4000 sq ft house. I have the router at one end of the house on the first floor and the satellite at the other end of the house on the second floor. The connection between them is excellent, and walking around shows no dead spots anywhere in the house. I get my advertised speed anywhere in the house.
It's not covering my back yard quite as well as I would like, but the ability to add that outdoor satellite is very convenient and something I will do in the future.
Overall I think it's a great system that easily covered the space I use it in, with some nice features to help expand in the future.

Simply perfect

I purchased this after extensive review on CNET to replace my Xfinity gateway, which was mediocre at best from day one. The Xfinity gateway only covered about 50% of my 4,200 SF home, and I have a home office that is on the opposite end of the home from the gateway. I didn't have anywhere else convenient to move the gateway. Even when in the same room as the gateway, we experienced dropped signals frequently. The Orbi was highly rated due to the separate channel to provide the signal to the satellite unit, and still maintain nearly full speed. The ratings were accurate. I also purchased a Netgear modem to go with the Orbi and I am equally happy with the modem. I have been able to increase my work efficiency substantially due to the increased coverage and speed, and the setup was super easy. I have already recommended this product to multiple colleagues and family members. Great product!

Great range and reliability

We replaced an old netgear router with the Orbi AC 3000 WiFi system after looking at reviews for many products. I'm 70 and while I'm reasonably tech knowledgeable, I'm no expert. I installed it myself, it behaved exactly as the instructions said it would, and it has now been up and running for about 2 months. We purchased the 3000 model because we have 3 floors and the router is all the way to one side of the house in the basement. I now get a strong signal on the other side of the house even in the garage. Our home is pretty wide rather than deep so I have been very impressed and happy. So my next step was to change out the old Hunter control box for our irrigation system and install a WiFi based system which I'm hoping will save me many dollars in water bills. We are gone over the summer and it allows me to control irrigation from my smartphone. The wonders of technology abound. ŠŠ

Extremely strong and reliable wireless signals

I'm switching from Google WiFi to Orbi, mainly due to poor wireless signals. And I am extremely happy with Orbi.My home isn't large (less than 2000sf), but it's a two-story building with vaulted ceiling and walls. Netgear Orbi does a perfect job even in a tricky enviornment. My ISP provides 500Mbps, and my current wireless connection is giving me close to 500Mbps. Previously, my old router only brought me less than 100Mbps wireless speed. The design is sleek, though a bit bulky. It has three or four LAN ports. So you won't need a separate switch in most cases. The one downside is a weak onborading/setup process, especially comparing against Google's. Orbi still wants to set up a separate admin account. Creating account with Facebook crashes the app. This could be streamlined.Overall, Orbi provides a very strong wireless backhaul connection, which covers most of home even if your home was a tricky layout.

Best WiFi System
on May 29, 2019

Setup was easy. It took me about 45 minutes from unboxing the Orbi system to placing the satellites. I have the main router with 2 Satellites that can cover 7500 sqft. My house is a two story with 4000 sqft, so I wanted to go overkill on the system coverage due to always having hotspots previously. My steaming tv service was always buffering and it shouldn't do that on gigabit service! This system is amazing! I get roughly 630mbps at the router and just about 10mbps if loss anywhere in the house or witching 30 yards of the house. I haven't tested the full reach of the system but rest assured, it will out perform your neighbors wifi ina heartbeat. I also like that you can do some configuration at the web access admin level vs just the included app. Many systems will not let you do this once you start looking at whole home solutions. Worth the extra money in my opinion and exceeds my expectations.

Complete Coverage

I live in an apartment with cement walls. The router we had in the living room wasn't reaching the bedroom or bathroom. The Orbi RBK50 with a single satellite cut through all that, and it's quick!
Installation and initial configuration took a half dozen attempts. There is no way to know if that was due to ISP issues or problems on the Netgear end.
Also, I haven't yet found a way to hide the SSID. If Netgear recommends against the practice, I would have appreciated a clear note about that up front in setup. It could have been explained in a section entitled, "Additional Security Measures You May or May Not Want to Take". If there's no option to hide the SSID using the iPhone app, or even other methods, that would have been good to know BEFORE hunting through all the prompts, and searching help resources and message boards.
In spite of the issues described above, we are satisfied with the Orbi RBK50.

Seems quite good

I purchased this product because I needed coverage on the other side of my home. I downloaded the app (more on that later) onto my phone but ended up doing most of the set-up through my desktop browser. It set up just as described in the instructions. The signal is very good. We had two a mac mini and an imac wirelessly connected, each with terrific signal. The 3 cell phones in the house seem to like it as well, and it feels like the Sonos system might be a bit more stable, but can't swear on that. No trouble shooting required thus far. About the app: I downloaded it to my moto g5 plus where I used it to do one thing, maybe change away from the default password. In any event, right on the heals of that, by phone stopped picking up wifi and refused to shut down. i ended up having to do a factory re-set. Not the end of the world, but sub-optimal. I have a feeling it is more the phone than the app though.

WiFi for 2018
on May 29, 2019

First off, this setup is stellar. The satellite gets the exact same speeds as my hard-lined Orbi; I lose zero Mbps to their over-the-air connection to one another. Mind you, one is on the first floor corner of the house, while the other is in the basement on the opposite corner of a 3400sqft home.Secondly, if I'm using a device whose WiFi card is lacking on the speed it can intake, I can plug that satellite into any outlet, anywhere within range of the main Orbi, then hard-line into that to get max speeds. Lastly, while this setup should create the mesh WiFi you're looking for, if for some reason you have a circumstantial area where you need WiFi closer to you (backyard, patio, pool area), just take the satellite out and plug it in.As if that weren't enough, the app lets you create guest networks, see and control other device's connectivity to your network, and check your speeds in different areas of your home.
