Finally

We recently bought a home that's 93 years old. It's been newly remodeled, but most of the original structure remains under the renovation. Due to the building materials used our old router and access point patchwork coverage was no longer sufficient, and left our home with one dead spot after another. Since cutting the cable tv cord years ago for streaming services, and with two kids who use Internet connected devices constantly, we needed a solution fast. Running Ethernet cables throughout the home was an extremely costly proposition that I was simply not in a position to take on. The Orbi mesh system has worked better than I could've ever imagined. I am in awe of how we are able to use one router, with one satellite to cover every square inch and more. This is one of the best purchase I have made in years, and I couldn't be happier.

No More Poor Connection Problem
on May 29, 2019

Until we purchased Netgear RBK 50, we had poor connection problem constantly and we were also concerned about cyber security issues. So, we started looking into getting a mesh router. We studied several brands in the market and decided on Netgear RBK 50 for its strength and wide coverage plus the access and parental control features. Having used it for over a week now, we absolutely love it. We no longer have a poor connection problem; the router and it's satelite have more than adequately covered the entire house as well as the garage. What we are also thrilled about it is that we can identify the devices to be allowed into the network and block others. We can also set up temporary quest accesses for visitors. So, effectively, it safeguards the security of the network. We're very happy about this purchase. It's worth every penny.

A breeze to setup!

The Orbi mesh WiFi system is one of the easiest pieces of technology to setup, requiring only a few steps. Unplugging the modem, and plugging it back into the power resets the modem. Placing the main Orbi unit within reach of the modem, attaching an Ethernet cable, and power cable, and then waiting for the Orbi to cycle begins the setup process. Password entry might be required for initial setup. Secondly, the satellite Orbi is placed midway in the house, plugged in, and synced with the main unit. Once the devices are synced, it is just a matter of selecting Orbi in settings on the WiFi device.
The signal strength from the Orbi system carries throughout the house with a full signal, finding no dead spots.
A reasonable price, easy setup, and good signal strength are my reasons for the five star rating.
Netgear does a great job!

The best thing to happen to WiFi since WiFi
on May 29, 2019

This WiFi system is one of the best. Since my house is rather large, we've always had problems with range. You name the router and we've probably tried it. We've also tried a numerous amount of extenders for our WiFi and none of them have worked that well. This has extended full speed WiFi to all corners of our house and even to our patio and pool area. It will be great this summer. I especially love how it had the dedicated backhaul band, which increase speed, and really sets it apart from the rest. Because without a dedicated band like this, it is pretty much just a router and range extender, which is what I was trying to avoid. This WiFi system is best for people who don't have their entire house wired for Ethernet. Overall, this is the best WiFi system and I have recommended it to so many friends who have the same issues as we did.

Take your time

I purchased this mesh system because I was fed up with dead spots in my 4500 Sf home. First of all the setup was quick and easy and within 10 minutes I was up and operating. However, for the next week I spent getting to know the system and tweeking it. I setup the application on my cell phone howeer I found the PC connection to the on board software more helpful and proided a much better control for the configuration. I downloaded and printed the user manual (over 160 pages) and studied it. I found that my position for the satelite was not ideal and was able to quickly change that. I use Alexa everywhere within the house and dropouts are not acceptable. I tested the connection from the satelite and it came up about 120Mb download speed with over 20 active connections. My adise is to plan out your system along with your expectations and features.

Better than expected, no probs!

I have to admit, I research things WAY too much sometimes and was concerned with a lot of negative reviews on the Orbi system (RBR50 in my case) but took a chance anyway. Installation was very quick and straightforward with the Android app and final tweaks via the web interface. Excellent coverage for our 100+ year old 2-story house, much better than I even expected on the original firmware. Running fine for a week or so and against better judgement (based on online reviews and problem reports) I decided to update the firmware using the auto-download. Zero problems and did note slightly better range and speeds on the fringes (2.4 band). I may be the exception to the rule in my experiences but I suspect the negative reviews are more the outlier exceptions. Time will tell on product/customer support but hoping I don't have a reason to use...

Excellent for Smart Home Use
on May 29, 2019

We have a large home with 20-odd user devices and about 15 smart home end-points. Had previously set up another 'high end' mesh system in my home. While the speeds were high for the users, my Amazon and Lutron controllers and other smart devices would periodically disappear or 'go dumb', and the edge areas of coverage were inconsistent. I had run through many configurations and had just about given up on a viable solution until I read more about the Orbi system. Purchased it and deployed it and within seconds I could see all of my devices checking in. Haven't lost connection since! Plus, my coverage extends beyond the house perimeter and gives us great speeds out in the yard and on the deck. Also, I can't say enough good things about the Disney Circle. It takes a bit of care to set up, but with kids aged 9-15, we really needed it. Excellent system.

I switched from another brand router to this Orbi system, and I have my xbox one x, pioneer receiver, chromecast, and roku plugged into the ethernet ports on the Orbi satellite, with the dedicated back haul connection and it all works great! I also have a wireless printer, wifi thermostat, samsung tablet, toshiba laptop, a custom-built desktop, my lg phone, my ring video doorbell, and a few other devices connected and the speed and range has been fantastic! I even have a pellet - smoker in my backyard that I monitor remotely over wifi and it connects just fine too! My ping and speed on my xbox is perfectly within acceptable parameters which is important to me. Last router system I will have to buy for a long time, plus I have the comfort of knowing it's expandable with a third satellite if needed. I get the coverage I need right now with just the 2.
