I researched for a long time before buying this system and it paid off. This thing is a beast. I also bought it with an HTC Vive and have been very impressed with how this system works with VR. I have no regrets at all. I love this computer.

Decent gaming laptop

I use this for steam games mostly. Doesnt seem to have an issue with running multiple applications at a time and really dont see any issues with it other than the temperature it gets to while running several applications at a time. There are lap devices that assist with cooling and it runs like I wanted it to. I would recommend this laptop to someone who wants to be able to play with their friends, chat, and have a few side apps running at the same time. I can run inkscape, laser etching software, solidworks, steam, discord, and internet browsers with ease (with shelving I bought to assist with ventilation and cooling) otherwise it gets insanely high temperature.

Could be better

For the specs this laptop has, the price is pretty good. but there are a few problems. 1. When the laptop starts working hard - the fans can get pretty loud. but that's understandable, this is a gaming laptop. 2. the customer support was not helpful when I had a problem. I had problems with the RGB keyboard, the only thing I had to do was uninstall Alienware command center and reinstall it, but all the support center could do was to send me to a lab. but the worst thing about this laptop has to be the touchpad. and I'm talking about gaming with it, I'm talking about simple day-to-day things. it clicks on it's own, drags things around when I scroll and all around misbehaves.

I purchased my 7790 (the one with the 144hz screen and a 2070 Max Q)just over two weeks ago. It is well built and has a really nice look and feel. The most important thing though is how well it runs. I run it with an HTC Vive and they make a great combo. Everything runs smooth as silk. I am very happy with my purchase.

Temps could be better out of the box
on October 6, 2019

I recently picked up the G7 7790 and right out of the box, thermals were pretty much hitting 100c. I was able to update the Bios to 1.10 and installed AW command center for custom fan control. Basically, having the fans running at 100% for most of the time will keep the system cooler (if you don't mind the noise).
Testing the game (without under volting) such as Black Desert Online and Doom, the CPU would reach 100c easily. However, I did find that the 0.150 under volt help significantly, along with lowering the max turbo boost to 70w along with the short burst.
Even with max fans running at idle, the system is relatively warmer than most other laptops I've used, such as the MSI GT7S or the AW 17R5. I'm thinking the slimmer design does not provide sufficient airflow, which in turn does not provide enough cooling.
With under volting as mentioned above, my particular system was able to maintain a cooler CPU under load maxing in the 80s, rather than hitting 100c. Thermal throttling wasn't an issue anymore while playing games and appeared to be stable under stress test.
Perhaps for their next build, open up a third air vent at the bottom and install and third fan to assist like the Clevo (or ProStar).
Other than having to do tweaks to get the CPU at a comfortable level, this laptop does get a bit warm to the touch while gaming for an extended period of time. The WASD in particular gets warming under load than I like along with the palm side of the right hand, directly underneath the keyboard.
Spec wise, it offers a pretty good value, but it certainly could be much cooler with some design work and tweaks. I haven't tested it with a cooling pad yet, but the two small air vents may be the bottle neck for a cooling pad and limits the efficiency. However, it wouldn't hurt having the laptop raised a bit more fan blowing at it.
Overall, decent but runs hot. Temps are manageable if your CPU under volts. Not all CPUs are made equal, but for my system, a 0.150 seems to be stable and stops the thermal throttling. Having the fans at a constant 100% is pretty much a must as the temps are just ridiculous with this build. Also may try to re-paste to see if that helps with the temps.

All around great in performance. Keyboard could have been made better. I suggest investing in a laptop holder for more efficient cooling.
