Nice pace calculator, bad for navigation

I bought this calculator two years ago, he is nice to see distance and speed info. For navigation, colors and maps are not good, service in Israel is very bad (two weeks to burn software)

Better than competition

Bought this after an ELEMNT bolt v2 which I sent back after 3 days as it it didn’t do what I wanted. Happy with the 830, yes it has a lot of features I probably won’t use but doesn’t rely on third party apps for navigation amongst other things.

Frustrated!

I have had my Garmin 830 for a couple of years. I think I got a lemon. It always has problems downloading my rides. I constantly need to remove the device from my phone and add it back. It has been a frustrating experience. How about a free upgrade/ new device?

Easy to Sync and Use

The edge 830 is easy to sync and use to track your riding. The map function I find to be difficult to use even though I have other Garmin products and have been using them for over 20 years. It couldn't recreate a route that went from street to trails and back multiple times, even though I had ridden the route before (was following a friend and recording that time). It was consistently telling me to turn around even when I was on the right path. My buddy was having the same problem with his. So I give it 5 stars for tracking and, surprisingly, one star for navigating.

Great head unit

I actually have a F7 and I bought the rear light radar. I ended up getting the Edge specifically to use with the radar. Works great.

I find that the 830 is great I use a few features and keep learning more all the time. I pair the edge to my light/ radar & heart rate monitor

I had mine for about two years now it’s a huge step up from my old 800 that I used till the battery died and wouldn’t charge anymore. It works great most of the time. Like most Tec when it doesn’t it is a problem that causes one just to scratch their head. I used my that set up with North American maps in Europe last year without a hitch. Just purchased the appropriate map set from GARMIN and fallowed the instructions to swap out the maps it all worked like a Charm. Reversed the process when I returned that’s all.
Problem I’ve had it stopped letting me load routes once. It was caused by having too many saved routes on the unit just went into history and removed all but a few. No problems since. I go in at the end of the month and clean house now.
Widgets offered some good others not so the one linking the bontrager lights is problematic my lights would go off in the middle of a ride and it try to connect me to other riders lights or radar’s I just got rid of it and just turn things on with the buttons
My latest problem is intermittent. Even while keeping room in the memory it takes 2 to 3 tries to move a route from my GARMIN connect app IPhone 12 to the 830. Get a message the unit is busy this happens even the kitchen counter in my house. I set the route to transfer through GARMIN Connect get the message there it’s ready for transfer next time I connect my 830 to the App and get the message my 830 is busy and to try again. This happens with both units just sitting next to each other on my counter. I have removed my 830 from my phone a pair it again and still have the problem. But then all at once it works and all is well
