The edge significantly improved my riding. Previously, I was tracking my rides with my smart watch. Once I upgraded to the edge, I saw a significant increase in my ability. The large screen allow for many data fields at at time, and is still easily readable. The turn by turn directions are fantastic. They allow me to plan a route in advance, and stay on it. This has increased my confidence, and I am now doing much longer and hillier routes.
Its super good in every way and every aspect but the only thing I found to be inaccurate was the gradient as it would always have a 10 second delay to when it would realize I have started going up a hill. Otherwise this device is amazing.
Everything about this computer is just about perfect. Very happy. My only issue is that sometimes the buttons “stick”. Other than that it was great features and very reliable.
I am going to get to the point. As a long time Garmin user this unit was clearly user-tested (if at all) in a lab by someone not trying to do anything real world. The buttons are a disaster. You can't feel them through gloves. No real feedback. Hard to push. Harder to know if you did push. Some functions require too many steps. An example. If you need to change a function you press the lower right button to go back, move up or down with buttons on the left, and select with a different button, on the top right. Try doing this with one gloved hand while riding. Compare the Edge 800 with two buttons at the bottom and a power button to the 530 with four button, 2 to a side, and a power button and you get the increase in complexity.
Bought this along with a set of the Garmin Vector 3 Pedals. The display is easy to read, and the set-up was pretty straight forward. Have done a few rides with the 530, and all the data that it provides is great!
Often it doesn't link with my iphone 7. I've had to delete the app on my phone and reinstall several times to get rides to download. It will not connect to my phone at all unless Connect is running. Sometimes the unit freezes and must be restarted. When that happens I lose my data. Most of the time it works well. I enjoy the data if it downloads to my phone. The speed sensor is a great accessory for the 530. But when it fails during 10% of my rides it's frustrating.
