Great for the price and if used after planning ahead. If you know you won't need to make routes after leaving home, it's the best option for the job. But, because the bluetooth connection seems impossible to make work, and because this model can't create routes on the device itself, it's not the best solution if you're planning to use it to make routes on the fly. TLDR: Great for planning and navigating routes, not great for spur-of-the moment routing or changes.
I've had two of these over the course of 10 years. I prefer the size to the other offerings. The second 530 came into my possession after the first took a drop out of my truck and cracked the screen. No ding to Garmin, that was totally on me. I know the computer would have lasted much longer (going on 7 years for #1).
This computer has taken me on many doorstep to doorstep adventures around home, as well as on multi day bikepacking and 12+ hour race events. The computer has excellent memory, multi day battery life, and mostly intuitive interface for use and customization.
For anyone new looking to get into the Garmin Cycling computer ecosystem, the 530 should be on the top of the list!
Spent a week riding through wine country in france with only this amd some gpx files for navigation. Our trip would have been pretty sad without it! Basic gps computer but it had all the functions I needed!
Trustworthy GPS guidance at your fingertips. Frequently used to navigate my way through unknown MTB trails. Always reliable and timely directions and cues provided. Favorite features are the 530's push button which can be easily depressed while wearing full finger gloves and it's ability to automatically sync with & upload to Strava and the Specialized app.
18 month old Garmin 530, screen bubbles with a bit of rain then falls off and put the unit in alarm. And it is supposed to be IPX7. Was a great unit but not if it can't even last 18 months with only a 12 month warranty. Wahoo next!
