I recently upgraded from an EDGE 520. For someone who is not hi tech (and older), it is a relief that I don't have to learn anything new to play around with the 530. The upgrades are easy to understand. Great product!
The 530 itself is good. Setting it up and making everything work for 2 bikes is challenging. The never ending menus and drilling down to make settings changes is difficult at best. Other computers use simple apps with quick setups. Also, it seems some changes are made on the unit itself, some in the app, and still others from the website. The mounts are awesome and form and basic function when riding are good. The screen gives me everything I need in a quick glance. Overall the 530 Edge is good but a pain to setup.
We bought 2 of these devices to replace 2 Garmin Edge 800's. They are great devices! We have several Garmin products and these were a nice addition. It would be really nice if there was an odometer field for each of our bikes, where we could input the current mileage on each bike and then the device would track it. We have several bikes and we like to track the mileage on each one. The Edge 800 had this feature and it was nice. It would be great if this could be added in a software update.
I really love the unit great device and the features it provides and offers nice design and look. Simple to use and setup. Cons I wish the GARMIN Edge 530 unit was touchscreen the buttons don’t always function when you push them.. other then that it gets an A- and affordable unit.
I expected a GPS computer to do more - I guess Apple and Google Maps have set false expectations. The problem with the map function is you have to know where you are going and upload that info in advance. If I knew where I was going I wouldn't need much of a map! Other than that, the Garmin does what a lot of computers do, Add on to my review that the functions aren't that intuitive. I really don't expect to have to read a manual to know how to work the basic functions. Maybe 3 stars is generous.
My old garmin kepy on dying mid ride, so I got this new one a couple years ago. The battery is amazing. I have gone on several multi-day bikepacking trips with long all day rides and only needed to charge it after 3 days of riding. It still had 20-25% battery life after 3 long days and I was not running it in battery save mode.
Unable to link any of my devices no matter what I did to trouble shoot or how many tutorials I’ve watched. Plus, I’d rather have a touch screen GPS. I took this time back.
