I have just returned from a four days trip with my Garmin. I planned routes with Garmin Connect but on the way I often got absurd messages Telling me to cycle back though I was on the route or suggesting to cycle into a field. I Had to use a map and a compass

I wish I paid extra for the 830 to get the touch screen. Navigating the menu and screens is a real pain using the buttons, especially while wearing cycling gloves. The buttons are too flush with the body and difficult to feel.
There's a learning curve, to be sure -- but once I took it on the first real ride, on trails that I hadn't ridden before, it was clear that it could help me navigate and find trails that I wouldn't have been able to find otherwise. I am still learning about the features -- I think its usefulness will just continue to expand as I use in more and more situations.
I consider myself pretty tech literate but the set up on this device is awful. Why don't you do some UAT? Even when I have tried watching youtube videos, several of the people demoing are having the same endless issues. Nothing is explained clearly or intuitive at all. I have wasted hours trying to set this thing up and I still don't really know how to record a ride, or use it as a GPS to follow someone else's Strava route - which was the sole reason I bought it!

Had my garmin edge 530 for 3 weeks now and still have been unable to connect to my iphone xr. Iphone shows connected, edge show waiting for phone. I'm about ready to give up and send for a refund

It is great cycling computer gives you all the data you need in training time and after on the garmin connect app you can analyse your training data , I have been using it more than 3 months and I never had any issues with it , battery life are very good I change it once a week and I'm active cyclist I ride up to 7 time a week , it is compact , light weight with good size screen so you can have up to 10 data field on one screen
The baseline against which all other bike computers are measured

I've had a couple of these over the years, as well as the older Garmin Edge 520, a 500, and a Wahoo Bolt and I think the 530 is the closest thing to a perfect bike computer. Setup is a little tedious and could benefit from a phone-based app, but once you have it configured, it's simple, intuitive to use, and reliable. Hghly recommended!
