Love My New Range!

I had to wait a long time to get my new GE Cafe range due to Covid. The wait was worth though. The induction cooktop is so fast and the temperature control is so exact. It’s like cooking with gas but better because top is so easy to clean. The oven is very accurate too. I love my new range!

I’ve had it for less than 2 weeks and love so many things about it. Previously I had a glass cooktop that I hated-very difficult to clean. We had considered converting to gas but had used an induction cooktop in a rental last winter and really liked it cooking on it. The controls were fingertip which I wasn’t crazy about so I was thrilled when I saw that the Cafe range had knobs. It is so much easier to use and the cleanup is a breeze as the burners don’t get hot so food doesn’t stick. The only issue I have is with the bridge burner and I may get used to it as I use it more. I put a griddle on it and the middle does not heat so I had to keep moving the food around do it would cook evenly. The oven is awesome and has tons of room for large pans. Not a problem of the stove but it doesn’t fit really tight so I am looking for some type of filler to tighten it up. Overall, I love it and it looks beautiful.

A great oven range!

Our first experience with an induction range, and it is just wonderful. When making rice, it brings a cup and a half of water to a full boil in under a minute. Cooktop is easy to clean, and the oven has features that allow full control from a smartphone.

Induction Works Nicely

Our new induction range arrived in perfect condition. Induction cooking doesn't take much to get used to. The nice thing is that with the cookware we purchased, any change in heating levels take place immediately. So when you feel your food is cooked perfectly, just shut off the burner and cooking stops. This may not be true to cast iron cookware where some heat may be retained. The only reason we're not giving this range 5 starts is that there was no warning in the book to run the oven empty several times to cook off the manufacturing coatings. We ended up ruining a dinner because of the smell that emanated from the oven. Once we cooked off the original smells, the oven worked fine. The Smart HQ app works very well, though the installation instruction could have been a little more detailed.

I switched to Indiction from a gas range and I’m so pleased how quickly the stovetop reacts to temperature changes, just as quickly as gas. I didn’t know how often I’d use the stovetop warming zone or the warming drawer, but I find I use one or both nearly every day, love them! The oven is true to temperature and the broiling is far better than my old gas broiler, and covers a much larger area. The stovetop is so easy to clean!! I’m happy with every feature, though I will say the timer volume is too low to hear on the TV side of the great room, even when set on the highest volume, so I bought the OXO triple timer to solve that issue. The only negative so far is that my belly keeps activating various settings because the control panel is so sensitive (I am short with short arms), but I’m still glad it’s on the front instead of on the back like some ranges where you’d have to reach over hot pots.
