Goal Zero for Boondocking

I have mounted the 1250 in my Jeep which is the Tow Vehicle for my T@B Outback. It charges in motion via a roof rack mounted 100w Solar Panel and the 12vdc plug in the Jeep. When boondocking I add the 4 Boulder 30 Panels mounted on the tripod and top it off with a Yamaha 2000 generator, if needed.

I've got the Yeti 1250 plus 8 Boulder 50 panels that we use to keep the 110 volt refrigerator running in our 5th wheel trailer while we are on the move. It will power the refrigerator for 18 to 20 hours without a problem. I am planning to expand the capacity with another battery soon as I would like to be able to run a few lights and other things as well as the refrigerator. The only problem I've had since I installed the system is the lack of reliable how-to information, but the questions I've had have been answered promptly by the support personnel. Eventually, I will probably get a second unit as well. Well worth the expense.

Yeti 1250

i purchased this system to allow me to work at my cabin in the wilderness. As with all solar, you must be vigilant with your power usage. The Yeti 1250 only produces enough power to run my computer and modem. I have 6 30 watt panels attached and the most I've ever seen them produce is about 100 watts. They are not the type of panels that can charge in overcast conditions either. Overall, it has allowed me to work from the cabin, but I had higher expectations. You decide if it was my expectations or a lack of disclosure on the part of Goal Zero. I would only recommend this product to some who consumes an average of 50 watts for about 8 hours. And that's not a lot of consumption.

Still powers the camper

The Yeti has been the power source in my camper trailer for over a year now. It powers the Satellite TV, fan, small fridge/freezer, lights, electronic insect killer, 12v shower, battery charger & recharges phones & laptop. If I am particularly careful with managing my power consumption I can even use the small twin tub washing machine. The Yeti is permanently located on the drawbar of the camper inside a purpose built checker plate box. Here it is easy to access, protected, dry and theft proof (unless someone steals the whole camper). The weight of the unit is no longer an issue as I rarely have to move it. At first I used 2 Boulder 30 panels to charge the unit. It wasn't long before I realised that these 2 panels were NOT going to do the job of keeping the Yeti charged. Their input was far below my power requirements. After a few minor modifications, I can now connect a 120w panel, and a 100w panel simultaneously. It is also possible to connect the 2 Boulder 30 panels at the same time although this gets very close to the maximum input that the unit can handle. Some National Parks, State Forests and camping grounds do not permit the use of generators. With the Yeti, I can go where ever I like as there is no noise or pollution to disturb others. I do however carry a petrol generator as a backup. After a week of rain it really does not matter how many solar panels you have. No sun, no power. My last trip tested the durability of the Yeti. It survived some of the harshest conditions in the Australian outback. Heat, dust and rough dirt roads. The trip lasted just over 2 months and covered 10,000 kilometres. At the end of each days travel, all I had to do was push the "on" button and I had power available. I bought the Yeti specifically to power my camper. With the help of extra solar panels, it has done the job well.

I have this as a silent back up power system, We ran a test for 36 hours running our old 25 Cu/ft Fridge and still had 40% power,One week Later During a real power outage , We Ran the fridge , Our cordless phones, Our internet Hub ,A Computer , And 2 Light a Life's ,And after 8 hours (With no panels hooked up) Still had Better than 70% Power, This rig works Great !
Even with a discount the Yeti 1250 kit was pricey for me. I anticipate a reliable product because of the apparent good engineering and well manufactured appearance. However, use of a different kind of storage battery would hopefully bring down the 100 pound weight which is, for me, difficult to manage. I would rate it a 5 star if it were more affordable &, especially, not as heavy. I was pleasantly surprised when I plugged the brand new unit in for a charge and I found that the factory had shipped it FULLY CHARGED! A nice customer friendly touch. The only strong negative at opening the box was to see the multiple pieces of the cart waiting to be assembled by me. I bought a Magna Cart instead of trying to assemble the included Yeti cart. At least *partial* assembly should be completed at the factory so that only a limited pairing of a couple of pieces of the cart is required to be done by the customer.

Great for Camping

For silent electrical generation for a C-PAP it can't be beat. My spouse could not have gone camping for three nights without the C-Pap so the Yeti kit allowed us to camp. This was also the first time we could use an electric fan in the tent, which added great air circulation and eliminated condensation. Having a way to charge the cell phones in the field was a piece of mind for safety. I was also able to keep the battery charged to the DSLR digital camera for the photo expedition.

I've been using the Yeti 1250 for about two months at an off-grid cabin in the mountains to run lighting, charge electronics, and use powertools. I charge it using the panels and every once in a while run the generator to top it off as well. The Yeti is powerful enough to run a jigsaw, power drill, and charge my power tools batteries while doing construction and it's great to be able to work without the noise of a generator... Highly recommend it!!
