I used to have Kaspersky but became unenchanted. My sister recommended BitDefender and I've been happy ever since.

Great base product, but surprisingly bloated

After using and loving the free Bitdefender antivirus for several years, I wanted to support the developers by paying for the full antivirus suite, plus there were some additional features I was interested in using from time to time. The straightforward interface and set-it-and-forget-it style of running in the background were hugely attractive to me and I was looking forward to seeing the same principles used for a number of other security applications.
That said, I was really surprised when I installed the program and immediately was bombarded with pop-ups advertising all the different features. It's been some time since then and I forget exactly which products the pop-ups were for, but I distinctly remember the frustration. The expectation of simplicity and high quality from Bitdefender was immediately shaken once I upgraded to the paid version, where it seemed that the program was just a form of advertisement to up-sell to me.
Of the pop-ups that I found intrusive, the most constant one is the one asking for each new WiFi network I join if I would like to turn on the VPN service. My computer is a laptop, meaning I am moving around a lot and connecting to a number of different networks regularly. While I appreciate the ideal for security on unknown and potentially insecure networks, the persistent pop-ups, even for networks that I regularly connect to and always refuse the VPN offer, without an option to stop the notifications or at least to trust a particular network, has become a frustration and annoyance. Add to this the fact that a very limited amount of data is available with the included VPN; I would have to pay extra for more data throughput, which is what that pop-up started to mean to me - do you want to buy the VPN?
I know it seems somewhat petty and small, but the entire point of supporting this company was because of the unobtrusive nature of the original program. But what I found was the same gimmicks seen elsewhere - where now that I've paid for something, it's a chance to advertise other things to me. Pretty unfortunate.

Takes a lot of RAM to run this program

I don't know if this is my computer literacy or not but I am constantly unblocking access to the internet for my computer programs, the RAM use has shot right up due to all the overseering BitDefender does. So while I wanted protection, either it has to be better managed or coordinated with other protection programs like what comes with my email program or WIFI printer.
