just one lacking feature

I went from an epson wf 4540 that I used for almost 10 years and dearly loved. When I had this printer beside an epson wf 7722 I found that there was no comparison. I chose to keep the Brother because I was really impressed with it's print quality, and then discovered that I'm going to have to buy another printer so that I can print labels. I don't understand why Brother passed on that feature but it sure made me mad. I don't know if that would be something they could address with a software update, but oh well.

Works good, does 11x17 printing and scanning

This does everything my other MFC series printers did, they are the best 11x17 printers that I can find for a reasonable price, the only thing I really hate ...... and I mean hate is the printer ink cost, there is really no good reason the ink should be this costly and now they have the ink cartridges that have chips on them so you really can't use the after-market ink and expect it to work properly. Over all I am happy with the printer but very dissatisfied with the cost of the ink! The reason for 3 stars is because I seem to be buying one of these printers about every 2 to 2 1/2 years.

Mostly Happy With This Printer

Mostly Happy With This Printer. The only disappointment so far is there is no tray for 11x17. 11x17 is fed from rear feeder which does not hold as much paper. I got this mainly for 11x17. I just don't like having to rely on the rear paper feeder when I have two trays. When I was searching for printers, I specifically searched for one with two trays assuming one would be 11x17.

True Multi-function

This is a substantial printer in many ways. I create architectural drawings which are large and expensive to print on our HP plotters. I wanted something that could print tabloid (11"x17" - which is 2x8.5x11 letter sized pages side by side) in order to have a means of generating quick previews of the larger drawings which we could use for bidding purposes. I currently have a project with 30+ pages of construction drawings in large format. The printing cost is substantial. I'm able to generate tabloid sized previews at a fraction of the cost, allowing me to effortlessly send the project out for bidding/review and also greatly reducing the cost of revisions and reprinting. Boom.
My wife prints photos from her phone. We have high quality photo paper in tray1. My tabloid sized sheets in tray2, and regular letter sized paper in the multipurpose tray for general printing and faxes/scans. It all works extremely well.
The printer is heavy and is used daily.
This is a piece of office furniture, this is not a lightweight inkjet sitting on a shelf somewhere.
The old saying is "You get what you pay for". In the case of the Brother MFC-J6945DW you go one better... You get MORE than you pay for!

Great Printer and Warranty

I bought this printer for my home business based on good reviews and personal recommendations. The double sided reading and printing was important for me. I often use the the wireless printing from my phone. The printer worked flawlessly for 11 months until I had a paper jam. It continued to jam even after following the instructions from the screen, the internet and from a customer service chat. After calling Brother directly they sent a replacement within the week and I am back up and operational again. I was fortunate that it occurred while still within the Brother 1 year warranty and that they stood behind their product.

Amazing machine. Definitely medium-office size and quality, although I found some of the plastic to be a little on the skimpy side. Takes a bit of use to get familiar with the unusual (to me) 90° rotated paper tray, but no big deal.
Scanning through the ADF is smooth and easy, as is the glass scan, although the lid is fairly heavy and awkward to open, but this need be done only for special items, I might reserve my smaller scanners for receipts and photos.

Software a bit different from my years of HP design, but not a bother to learn.
If it truly has a year's worth of ink in the box, that's major right there- remains to be seen, as does the cost of a new tank or estimated cost per copy.

All in all this is about the most industrial printer I have owned for home use, and I love it.

Excellent Value.

When the iOS update on my Mac desktop upgraded itself to a 64-bit system, my trusty Canon all-in-one wouldn’t connect to the Mac. Since I used it for all functions and could no longer scan Or print, I started researching new printers, and this Brother model offered the most features for the price.
My Only concern over in giving it five stars is minor; unless I’m missing something, there doesn’t seem to be a way to print a fax confirmation page. Other than that, it deserves all five stars.
The software that comes with it is well designed. And another feature is the smart phone app, iPrint & Scan, that’s easy to navigate and use.
The wireless printing feature is easy to set up (as long as your wireless computer, laptop or tablet are on the same network) and works seamlessly.
The printer/scanner/fax even lets users set up shortcut buttons on the printer screen and in the software to carry out repetitive printing, scanning and faxing chores.
Overall, this is a good device with strong value. Although it’s a bit pricey, if you believe that you get what you pay for, you’ll get a good deal with this machine.

So far, so good!

I purchased this MFC-J6945DW because I need a printer that can both print AND scan 11x17 size documents in color. It was purchased to replace an older version of Brother's Large Platform printers that recently began having troubles with needing to clean itself several times with each ink cartridge change and then I'd be almost out of ink before I could print anything... the former printer was 5 years old and saw light use, so that was a little disappointing that it failed after 5 years. Anyway, on to this printer!
This printer is faster to print and to scan than my former printer and it does a really nice job working from the document feed tray - this continues to be a strength compared to other printers that I used that had problems feeding documents well. I also really liked that I could arrange the 8x11.5 and 11x17 trays as I wanted to - on the older version I was forced to arrange them in one particular way so that it would auto feed the proper size. The print quality and scan quality seem to be very good with this printer, note that I'm not printing photos - just color documents. I haven't printed enough to use up the supplied ink yet, so no comments on ink use or replacement costs yet....
Overall I'm very happy with the J6945DW and hope to be so for many years. It does exactly what I need it to do!
