Easy to setup. I LOVED the plastic saddle under the machine to help you lift it out of the box. I wish more companied did this!
I was concerned after seeing reviews about cold drinks. I made a large double cappuccino and it was about 150 degrees at the default settings. A double espresso was around 170. So things are plenty warm!
The water container is difficult to remove. I am hoping it just need some time to break in. Also, the PH Test Strip did not work. I know we have medium hardness and it was 4 green blocks after several mins. So I just set it to 2/4.
[Employee of philipsglobal] My household is extremely happy with this machine. We all have very different preferences, and haven been using a manual espresso machine for the past 10+ years. This machine is amazing, from a simple black cup of coffee to a fancy layered milk drink. We use medium roast beans and 2% milk for perfect results. For flavor, we add a little to the cup before starting and give it a stir with a battery powered mini-froth-wand while it is pouring.
I bought the xelsis as a Christmas gift for my wife. Unfortunately we are very disappointed with it.
We use the highest temp setting but still the coffe is barely luke warm. My wife uses our old machine to brew her coffee then the Xelsls to make froth. I usually microwave my cup after using the Xselsis.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

My family has had a Saeco Syntia for about 8-10 years. We loved the machine, but it definitely had its drawbacks. The milk flow was inconsistent if you used anything but skim milk (which could be rectified by soaking everything in food grade cleaners), the coffees were luke warm at best and the drink itself was good, but not representative of what you could get by going to a quality coffee shop and having a talented barista pour your drink. I read a whole bunch of reviews and I was a little skeptical because I heard that you had to remove the milk tubing from the machine to change the water (not true), that the drinks weren't hot enough (once again, not true) and I didn't understand why it would have a separate container that didn't somehow attach to the machine other than by a plastic tube. This latter fact is actually so much better, bc the interface through which milk travels is now so much simpler than the connection my old syntia had where the container attached into a nipple on the machine. This simpler connection makes for much less to have to keep clean. And the coffees are SPECTACULAR! I am a true coffee snob. I travel all over the country for work and my favorite thing to do is find all the special little coffee shops in each area that I travel to. If I had the coffee made at this machine at one of those shops, I would walk out saying it was a winner. Certainly, a qualified barista could probably do a little better, but I don't run across that many qualified baristas. We are huge huge fans of this machine. Its expensive, but it will pay for itself pretty quickly in my house.
Drinks are the Temps they are suppose to be, some HOT! some Not, this is due to Hot Milk vs Cold milk used to recreate the FLAVOR PROFILE needed to make that particular drink. I find that the Flavor recreation is Very well done. It Not about HOT its about correct FLAVOR!!! This machine is VERY FAST at making drinks, Heatup time Very Fast, All Drinks Taste Different!!! This is Not just stronger or weaker Shot of coffee, this is about Flavor profile matched to each drink type, and it does it Very well. I bought the Xelsis cause, I need a Great Tasting Cup of Coffee, FAST!! the Xelsis full fills this requirement. I love All the different types of coffee it produces. I have a few semi auto espresso machines, but making great espresso is Very time consuming, the Xelsis is Very Fast as it multitasks while making drinks. this machine does a great job of keeping itself clean, between drinks. Love this machine.
[Employee of philipsglobal] Great looking expresso machine. I had another espresso machine prior with a steam wand and my wife likes this one more due to the simplicity and the personal settings. I would say the miss on this machine is the plate warmer on top. Doesn't get warm enough and I believe is plastic. The other espresso machine had a medal plate and warmed the ceramic cups which is a nice feature. Also, given the touch screen design, maybe should've included an automatic timer so the system is ready to go first thing in the morning under personal programable settings?? Sure Philips thought of it but not sure why it wasn't included. Otherwise happy with purchase.
Beautifully designed machine with lot of drink options, but even the hottest temperature settings result in lukewarm milk-based drinks. I wish it had a steam wand to manually heat and froth milk.

Hi coffemate,
Thanks for taking the time to share some thoughts on the Saeco Xelsis. It's great to hear that you're enjoying the machine for the most part. But it's understandably a pity when you feel the milk-based drinks aren't hot enough. The milk doesn't get heated too much, as we would want to avoid the milk burning. But you can do a couple of things to heat things up. First and foremost we would like to ask to try preheating the cup you're making the milk-based drink in prior to making it. If that doesn't help, we would like to ask to reach out to us directly to discuss this further. You can find us on Facebook (@Philips) or Twitter (@PhilipsCare). We're available 24/7.
