Best PT printer I've had but...
on June 16, 2021
Posted by: YoMaMa
I've owned at least 4 Ptouch label makers and this is the best. Ignore everyone complaining about the wasted one inch precut tape.. The waste sucks, but every last p touch label maker does that so it's pointless to hold that against this one. This one prints twice as fast as all my previous models. Its real easy to carry around unlike the much more expensive E550 that I used to use (I never used the keyboard anyway). My only gripe.. and I have had it with Brother for a while, is this does NOT connect to windows via bluetooth. It only connects to android and apple via bluetooth. I have no idea why they would do this, but at least its a step in the right direction as there used to be no bluetooth at all. Also, the mobile apps are crap compared to the desktop editor but that doesnt stop this from being a better label maker than all the others I have owned.

Spiffy, nice labels; wastes tape & disconnects
on December 5, 2019

I like the printer design and it makes nice labels.
Unfortunately, using the app on an iPhone, I've had to reconnect manually each time I open it.
Worse, the printer advances and cuts-off an inch of label tape before printing each label—this is insane. It's a design defect that can waste 50% of the expensive label tape if you're printing short labels. Turning off this "feature" and printing off-kilter labels isn't a solution—the product shouldn't have made it to production this way… it's either thoughtless design or a usurious effort to sell consumables.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good printer, needs to stop wasting label supplies

The printer and associated software are good. Everything works well and the software is easy to navigate. What this needs is a setting to permanently reduce the amount of label stock that is pre-fed before printing. You can change it to a minimal amout of waste but you have to do that each time you want to print. This needs a setting change that the user does not have to address each time.

Hi, We are glad to hear that printer and software works good and easy to navigate. Unfortunately, there is no way to set the pre-feed margin to permanently. Click the link below for ways to reduce the margin setting:

Not as easy to use as it should be, but fixable

So just like the product pitch, I wanted to use this in the kitchen for labelling pantry items. Plugged in, with a dedicated iPad nearby, I should be able to step up, open the app, type the text, and hit print. But some really poor design choices keep that from working out-of-the-box.
First off the power. It shuts off automatically when idle, even if plugged in, fine. But the power button is a flush-mounted dot the size of a lentil *on the back* of the unit where you would think only a never-press-me-reset button would be. Why not a big button on the top next to the light that shows it's on?
Next the bluetooth pairing. As other reviewers have noted, it doesn't maintain the pairing so you have to go to your device's settings and reconnect *every time*. But it turns out that you can work around both of these issues by changing the setting that powers off automatically and make it stay on. Astoundingly you cannot do this through the app (either one, more on that later). Instead you have to plug the printer into a computer, download *another* dedicated app for changing settings, and fiddle it there.
Then there's the app. The promoted one you end up at if you scan the QR code on the device is "iPrint&Label", and it's a toy. Only sized for a phone, not a tablet, and doesn't even rotate to landscape mode. Fortunately there's *another* app, "Design&Print", which works much better, and is frankly just as easy to use. Have to hunt for it, though.
Hope this helps before you get frustrated.

It works BUT Terrible Bluetooth & Wastes Tape
on November 14, 2022

It works with just a iPhone to run it, which is good. The Bluetooth interface is the worst I have ever used. Every time you turn on the P-touch Cube Plus you have to go to settings >Bluetooth and select the PT-P710BT to connect. If that isn't enough of a pain then you have to select the printer in the App! When the printer times out (10 minutes) you have to go through the process all over again. Every time you print one label at a time the printer wastes about an inch of tape.

Useful Product with some issues
on December 3, 2020

Overall, I do like the product but it has some issues. While ease of use is easy and full of features on a computer, the Apps for smart devices can be challenging at times and seem to be less featured. Additionally, a lot of tape is wasted during the cut off procedure. This results in an added expense for the use of the product. That said the label quality is good, the unit is compact, easy to load and use, and has an incredible amount of tape options that can be used with it. Additionally, other tape designs are available for the unit from other companies. While Brother support is sometimes ineffective it is much better than many other companies and its competitors. Based on a couple of months experience I would likely recommend it or purchase it again.

Waisted label tape.

Send a firmware update to stop printer from snipping off leading edge of label tape at start of new label. Set it to snip leading edge only after sitting idle for 10 minutes.

Great label maker - software not so great

Love the label maker and bluetooth to phone for making labels on the fly. Quality high. Need more label widths as samples with the unit. Don't need any 1" wide labels but that's what comes with it. Software clumsy and not intuitive
I would recommend this to a friend!
