Bought this system for my camp hoping it would be amazing. It looks pretty good and the features aren’t bad but it’s a bust for me. Wire on the solar panel I don’t find is long enough but not a major problem. It’s -5 in Canada, cold out and I get to the camp and want to get the fire going quickly since we went through the ice in a waterhole and are soaked. Walk in, third the lights on and it’s awesome. About 30 seconds later I’m digging for my fire starting stuff and lights go out. Very odd, battery should have been full, gets 80-100% sun with the panel for 4-6 hours a day. Checked the unit and it says too cold battery 0%. Major buzzkill as I’m back to the propane lantern because my solar system won’t work. Not happy at all, wouldn’t recommend it to any Canadian or northern part of USA because it won’t work when you need it too. Hopefully there’s a cure figured out for me!

Hi Cody - Thank you for dropping us a line. From the initial sound of it, the below freezing temps are the culprit here. Any lithium-ion battery system will behave similarly, regardless of device. I'll have one of our product specialists reach out to you in 1-3 business days to see if they have any additional tricks or tips for extreme cold weather use; but at -5 you're at the lower bounds of what lithium ion is capable of doing.

I have some Biolite stuff so I liked the company. bout the SolarHome, I put it in a cabin and it works fine, as design. The addition of the radio is a must. The only thing I disagree is the MP3 player from a memory card. Who used memory card today ? Should have been bluetooth enable or nothing.

Hello biolte, I have many biolite products, and I like what they are doing ! I was wondering if you make a a/c charger for this lighting kit ? Or make a new battery for this in the cold it doesn't work well! All my other biolit e products are just a pleasure, this is to however I think the marketing a little of , it's just a lot of money compared to others I have seen. But I know what your doing in africa and that was a big influence, every one on this planet should have this simple human right.

We needed to provide lighting in a new yurt that we just set up on our cottage property. We are using the yurt as an extra sleeping space, and it is off by itself away from the main cottage. SolarHome 620 is a very nice solution for this use case. It includes plenty of cable for distributing the three lamps around the space, and the solar panel is keeping the battery at full charge.

Works well for the time I've had it! Solutions like this should become more common for those of us who travel to the mountains ans camp frequently. The radio has a very strong signal too!
