As an old audio guy I've set up many audio systems using a lot of expensive gear and a fair amount of time. The VSX-933 does a credible job using MCACC and very little time at all. Kudos!

Has been a great system, although when you switch from hdmi to tv you have to allow it some time before doing anything on the tv or you get no sound.

I prefer my 10 year old Pioneer

I had a 10 year old Pioneer VSX1020 that got taken out by a lightning strike. Even though I had a surge protector the lightning came through the HDMI cable because that is always powered up & has no surge protection. I loved the receiver & after little research I settled on the VSX 933 - Set up was a breeze & I thought I was off to the races. The power output was no where near the 1020 even though this new receiver was rated for more power. The phone app worked great except for controlling volume. The amp took for ever to boot up & send a signal to the TV. My Apple TV was connected to the Streaming Box HDMI but it would not work. Sound quality was just ok. The most annoying feature was it had no HDMI pass through even though the menu showed it did. Every time I shut off the Pioneer receiver to view my satelite TV I lost audio & video signal In another words the Pioneer had to be on Surround speakers all the time to view TV. Not so for the 10 year old VSX 1020. Very annoying. Most times when I fired up the VSX 933 it would go to the TV input not to the last HDMI input i was on before shutting it down. Maybe I got a lemon or a rerurbished amp. Who knows . It's going back to Best Buy Monday am. Very dissapointed in the new Pioneer
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not honouring warranty

Within 10 months the system crapped out and then when I sent it in on the warranty I was informed pioneer is no longer available or making parts.
I bought this for a stereo sound system. Good power, sub-woofer control, phono pre-amp and network and wireless connectivity. The sound is great. CDs, LPs, hardwire connected devices (an iPod to an analog input) work great. After much struggle, I couldn't connect it over my network. Probably a user fault. I can connect with Bluetooth and the built-in Chromecast but the audio drops out frequently, making it unusable (the source device works fine with other receivers). The USB input would only play a few songs out of a 1000; not useful either.
It got 4 stars because it delivers on the audio side, provided the input is connected directly.
