I would like the monitor to easily be managed from inside the Mac and instead have to use the controls on the display which is an archaic approach to monitor settings.

I purchased this monitor as an external display. This monitor is a great entry level purchase for someone looking to start out.
The only draw back is there are no speakers on this monitor, but other than that the monitor is built well. Plenty of ports: thunderbolt (with wattage needed to charge your laptop), usb, usb-c.

Great Monitor to have with some caveats

This is a great all-round monitor to have to connect to multiple sources (two desktops, cable, video-game console, etc).
Quality screen, adjustable heights, rotational view and so on.
The caveats to know that wasn't clear when purchasing:
- You need to buy a speaker (if you don't have any) to connect to the monitor
- As described when buying there's only 1 HDMI port, 1 Display port and 1 mini display port and a USB-C port. It comes with some cords to use but depending on what you're connecting to the monitor, you may need to get an adapter or another cord. (SO BE PREPARED FOR THAT.)

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just when I thought design and functionality could not get more seamless and efficient, I get surprised by this gem of technology. It features an anti-glare panel resolution of 2560 x 1440 at 60 Hz and it just has mind boggling crisp and clear imagery. It's super compatible with plenty of ports and very versatile. I'm wholeheartedly delighted!!
