Replaced 26 year old GE microwave!

My 26 year old GE microwave suddenly quit working! I read consumer reports and alot of reviews of different brands. I needed a specific size to fit in a custom kitchen space. Only GE had one that fit my needs. GE was rated by consumers real well. There were other brands that were a little higher rated but who heard of a microwave lasting 26 years! I decided to stick with GE! They have a good track record, and cant beat the value for the quality and features.

24 Hour Review

First: I have had this microwave oven for less than 24 hours now, so this review has nothing to say about durability or longevity.
We have however, put our new oven through it paces:
- The first test was the “Popcorn” cycle conducted last evening. Black Jewell microwave popcorn was placed in the turntable and the microwave button was pressed. The machine came alive and 1:35 was on the clock. After several rotations within the oven chamber the bag expanded and kernels began to pop. With about 10 seconds to go it was apparent the this was an insufficient amount of time to complete the task. The “Add 30 Sec” button was pressed and once again, for a total cooking time of 2:35. This is consistent with the 16 year old Magic Chef this unit replaced.
- The second test was thawing and cooking chicken breasts for my dogs. The thawing took 40 minutes and the cooking took an additional 10 minutes. This is consistent with its predecessor.
- The third test came this morning to reheat a cup of coffee. The “Beverage” feature was used. The clock read 1:00 minute of time. The “Add 30 Sec” button was used to stretch that to 1:30. Again very consistent with my expectations for performance.

One initial annoyance. The buttons are all printed gray on black, while aesthetically pleasing they are somewhat difficult to read. This may become less of an annoyance over time as I learn the physical locations of the buttons I use.
Great bang for the buck.
