I wanted a good steamer, not the plastic cheaper options so readily available. This steamer is not inexpensive, but it is a better value when you consider the quality and the features and you want a consistent result. The pre-programmed timers almost make it fool proof. So far everything I've cooked has come out perfect. The base is heavy duty glass. If you want cheap there are many options but if you want quality and peace of mind, this is your best option.
